Puget Systems no longer selling Mineral oil PC cases.

So the case company which probably got a lot of exposure over the past few weeks from Linus's videos has come under fire from Liquidcool solutions, which somehow own several patents on Mineral oiled PCs.

Unfortunately our mineral oil aquarium PC kit project has come under fire by LiquidCool Solutions, who holds several patents related to mineral oil cooling of PCs. Their issue with our project is in claims 1 and 9 of US Patent 7403392 and claim 24 of US Patent 7911782. Funny enough, Puget Systems was actually cited in their patents as previous work.

Here at Puget Systems, this project has never been motivated by profits. It is a project that we have had a lot of fun with, and that we enjoyed using to enable the enthusiast community to do new and interesting things. As such, regardless of how we feel about the validity of this patent pressure, we cannot devote the time, finances and energy to take up that battle. We have a very successful business manufacturing high performance and high quality PCs and workstations, and will be focusing our energy there going forward. We will continue to host information, photography, and videos about our mineral oil PC kits, but we will be unable to continue to sell the kits themselves. We look forward to seeing what you all come up with as we pass off the torch to each of you!

Kind of a dick move from LiquidCool Solutions.

I see the opposite happening to LiquidCool ranging from being called out as patent trolls to very dodgy death threats and rationality in between denouncing them. Yep, I sense hostility towards LC and don't feel sorry for them. When a business pisses over someone for having fun, they earn a permanent spot on my shitlist.

Dick move. Dick Move.

That being said, I may need to find my own method for engineering my own version of the fish tank PC from Pax Aus 2014.

I hope it was worth it, LC.

LC doesn't even sell a mineral oil cooled PC do they? I went to their website and it's like a corporate website. Nothing but legal information about the company. Puget just wanted to do something new for people. Also, since when the fuck did someone own PC cases? You should be able to own it since anyone can make it.

I'm going to patent the process of creating a patent and sitting on it to prevent others from doing things.

Patent trolls is so fucking terrible. They really need some laws on it to restrict patent happy companies.

Oh! I stuck a radiator, tubes, and a pump with a CPU block together and made a liquid cooler!

More companies are doing it! Better patent it! <_<
