How to deal with internet arguments?

Lauen

So the last couple days I've been involved in an internet argument, and just now I found myself getting actually mad at the person I was trying to have a real discussion with, said person keeps bringing up earlier arguments which I've already agreed on, and doesn't seem (to me) to have any actual common sense (or I'm just mad). The subject is audio (studio headphones and such) and I have talked to people within the audio forum (the o2 guys, yaknow) and the ones I talked to are on my side)

I just don't know what the person is doing and how he can be so ignorant (from what I see), and I'm trying my best to remain calm and still write sensible arguments (or at least try). Any tips on how to argue properly and prove my points properly?

Don't bother. Waste of time.

Some people are ignorant.

Idiots with invalid arguments tend to draw attention, so it's the best option to ignore them!

I usually just sit and laugh, then close it and let them get mad at them self.

Online arguments are just opinions, an argument based on opinions is impossible to win. That's the purpose of opinions, they're both right in some way

my way when i was on internet rampage(game forums mostly):

1. take a step back.

2. look at what's said.

3. troll

these days:

1.take step back.

2. laugh at stupidity of the other(or yours if you find a flaw)

3. turn away and leave it(or apologize for your misunderstanding, trolls hate it)

May the light have your back and your ISO low.

Personaly I wouldn't let them affect me to the stage of having actual emotions, unless it is someone you can discuss things rationally face to face just throw them a blank .

I have spent years on Usenet and in there every fifth person (it seems like) is just trolling (by its very definition they are just trying to get a rise out of you) so am a tad immune to what people say  .

So whether they are trying to bait you or arguing(disscusing) something, if you start to feel uncomfortable or think "right he is definetly wrong there I will tell him" those should be taken as warning signs to just put down the keyboard and walk away.

You will live longer be less stressed etc if you just take a "yeah OK" attitude to online disscusions.

I love how 99% of these are "just ignore". I also forgot to mention that I was the only person to reply to the guy (it was on Youtube and the comment was 6 months old but I was curious)

I know, BUT I'm actually part of said atrocious audio forum(hence the passion for trying to enlighten the guy I was talking to), but the problem is that people start saying stuff about stuff they know next to nothing about.

I did laugh at the guy because what he said was like actually straight up not true and he had the idea of that what he had learned was the be all, end all, and I found it entertaining. I didn't actually say "hahah" or "lol" though, I wanted to seem serious.

Mature way: Either ignore entirely or remain civil with facts and sources. If the other party still refuses to listen, block.

Immature way: Call them a faggot and carry on.

Edit: Oh, this is audio related. The one subculture more obnoxious than the PC vs Mac / PC vs Console crowd. The simple reality is that not everyone hears the same, graphs and all about specs are nice, but the *only* thing that matters in the audio world is if it sounds good to *your* ears. Anything else is here say. For studio use, the only thing that matters is how close everything sounds to the source. The more true, the better. Sound for studio is to be non-colored while consumer audio is allowed to be more warm and have things like more emphasis on the bass. How this simple reality is foreign to some people in the audio world is a mystery.

My man, there isn't much to do. Like everyone else said, if you start feeling angry because of what you read in a monitor, you need to get up and do something else.

If you want to seriously help someone and that someone is being a jerk, end the argument with: "Well, that's what I think, if you want my help or want to ask me anything, PM me. Have a nice day :)"

Show off your blackbelt in not getting trolled :D

Exactly what the edit says. And this was indeed in the studio segment of audio, but it might still have had something to do with subjective taste.

Someone was arguing against studio cans needing to sound close to the source? While hearing is indeed subjective, the basic goal for studio monitors is to be as neutral as possible so it's true to source. It's why something like beats studios would be a bad option for mixing since the sound would be colored with extra bass ect. ect. I have no idea what the argument was about exactly, but it seems we share the basic concept of audio. :P

Yeah, we share the concept, but you don't wanna do mixing on headphones in general, you want to use speakers (as in studio monitor speakers) for the most part, then do some fine tuning to ensure a good sound on various headphones. Also with a little bit of knowledge of how your headphones sound you should be able to compensate for extra bass or lack of bass. But he was arguing that a certain set of studio cans did not have a flat sound (it was actually my favorite headphones, the shure srh440), and did not have good amount of detail, contrary to what every review ever has said, and my impression of them compared to the other headphones I have tried (including the ever popular M50's), but the main point is he had not used other better headphones either so I really don't know how he could base it on his non-existing previous knowledge of how flat headphones sound.
