Trends that need to end

Mooshi

Let's have a discussion about trends in our hobby that needs to change.

I'll get it started with gaming peripherals. I don't care how advance the tech is inside, if it resembles a chunky glossy piece of plastic with bright colors, I have no interest. This trend is prominent for gaming oriented kit and I know I'm not the only one who finds that look to be garish. Even if the materials are of higher quality, there is some aesthetic that bean counters think look good and I don't like it. Cooler Master's CM line of keyboards is probably one of the better examples of how to make gaming gear right. It's not overly flashy, nor is it boring. In fact, I'd gladly rep a CM Keyboard without wanting to hide it under low lighting.

Another gripe are glossy surfaces for things you're going to handle, the same can be said for aluminum. I used Lian Li before, I know very well the paranoia of staining. When that material used for something like the inside of a laptop, I seriously question why. Glossy is self explanatory.

We need to stop the xbox vs playstation and mac vs windows war. It really comes down to what you prefer; don't let other people tell you what hardware/software is good.

I'd leave that to powerful marketing. People shell out 200+usd for some cheap plastic construction because it has a lower case 'b' on the side. It's their money, but that doesn't excuse charging so much for low grade materials. Marketing is one powerful machine.

Erm

Brushed Aluminum on wrist rests / Case buttons anyone?

How about every motherboard being red+black?

I also wanted to say red and black. We need more colors -_- Or better, RGB where it can be ( xfx cooler LED for example) its not that expensive! And it maxes alot of sales and happy customers.

How many cases are there on market? Alot.

How many are good? Very few under 70$. You have to really dig deep to get good case. Companies are cheaping out on proper removable dust filter. Cmon it doesnt cost that much! Even 120mm is enough for new hardware with low power dissipation ( zalman) and there are very cheap cases with dual 120mm removable dust filter @ ~ 40$ ( mx300 cougar )

Companies should listen to linus and customer. Corsair spec cases are fail. Zalman latest chassis looks is stupid because they are sticking to their old design. R1 is very cool tho.

Oh and i forgot to mention front "filter" from core cases - fractal. :(

I had a Nokia Lumia 800, my first smart phone.

In the beginning I liked it, there were a few good games on it with integration to Xbox Live, but the rest of the apps were crap.

I beg to differ, I use the Lumia Icon, and i absolutely love it, sure, there are less apps, but everyday apps like Facebook, Pandora, twitter, and everything else is great. Plus.....Cortana rocks! The windows 8/8.1 phone isn't the fastest os, but it's smooth and nice. Plus dat camera.
