US No longer a Democracy

Jerakl

This may not count as tech news, but this is probably considerably important.

http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/princeton-experts-say-us-no-longer-democracy

A new study from Princeton spells bad news for American democracy—namely, that it no longer exists.

The US of A is now classified as an Oligarchy,

Oligarchy (from Greek ὀλιγαρχία (oligarkhía); from ὀλίγος (olígos), meaning "few", and ἄρχω (arkho), meaning "to rule or to command")[1][2][3] is a form of power structure in which power effectively rests with a small number of people. These people could be distinguished by royalty, wealth, family ties, education, corporate, religious or military control. Such states are often controlled by a few prominent families who typically pass their influence from one generation to the next, but inheritance is not a necessary condition for the application of this term.

My thoughts:

Well crap. I don't have much to say about this, I don't live in the US. But this is definitely not good.

I will ponder this a bit and edit the post at a later time.

Mods feel free to move this if you feel it needs to be :)

Sorry if repost

LET IT BE KNOWN, I LEARNED THIS WHILE WATCHING THE TEK.

Someone told Luke and Linus at CES 2017 to "Unban the legend known as Jerakl" and that's about all I've got going for me. (It didn't work)

Not only is this not tech news, this isn't news at all. I think it's quite obvious that US politics have been driven solely by money for decades.

The US was never a democracy.

It's a Constitutional Republic.

k then, I always thought it was a democracy xD

Of course as said, I don't live in the US. And in Canada we don't learn much about the US in school. :)

Democracy doesn't really exist, it's a nice idea but it's not really possible with more than like 5 people.

Exactly. Like many of the idealistic forms of government it is essentially impossible on a large scale.

The person who throws the most money at their campaign generally wins per their election, and that's how it's been for a very long time.

The Internet is the first thing that humanity has built that humanity doesn't understand, the largest experiment in anarchy that we have ever had.

Never thought of the United States as a Democracy. From seeing how voting works with the electoral college.
