295X2 or SLI 980s?

So im about to build myself a custom pc desk so I decided to go ULTIMATE

Build log will be up in November

Anyway I ran into a problem  with GPU selection I will be using a 1440/1600p monitor as well as 2 1080s on each side so I needed to go ultra on the GPU stuffs

but my roadblock is that since im going to spend a ton on GPUs anyway I cant decide between the 295x2 or the 980s

256gb Samsung Evo

4tb WD Black

Awesome watercooling loop

I can get a r9 295x2 on tigerdirect for 807.00

but the 980s are 1100.00 on everything even if i can find them at that price

Yup 980s all the way, whatever Nvidia or AMD, 2 GPUs on the same PCB it's the last thing you want for gaming purpose.

The R9-295X2 uses an AIO "hybrid" liquid cooler. Fanboy troll?

 

With that aside, GTX 980 in SLi without a doubt.

• Performs better (arguable at high resolutions in some situations)
• MUCH lower power draw
• Runs cool -- even with the reference cooler

i think u should go for 980s SLI , it is far more superior then R9 295X2  when u install waterBlock on it . it has less heat , lower power consumption , NEW FEATURE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Like DirectX12 support and Super Dynamic Resolution (SDR) Dat FEATURE IS SO COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! .

Personally I would go with the R9 295X2 because it's cheaper and I want AMD features.

 

Reasons to choose the 980 Sli:

 

1.Lower power consumption, it's better than the R9 295X2 by roughly 212 Watts.

2. Lower Noise, compared to the R9 295X2 it's about 6 dB lower.

3. You get Geforce experience and all the new features.

4. You get G-sync

 

 

Reasons to choose the R9 295X2:

 

1. It's water cooled.

2. You get Raptr and AMD features like TrueAudio.

3. You get Mantle support.

4. You get Adaptive V-sync.

5. It's cheaper.

The R9-295X2 has 4GB of VRAM per GPU, so it's the same as the GTX 980 with 4GB.

In Crossfire / SLi, the data is mirrored onto each GPU.

And no i'm not a nvidia fan boy. I wasn't comfortable with that card in my system, but if he doesn't mind all those things then go get it. It runs games fantastically.

The fan on the card itself was pretty loud, but again i am a bit of a quiet freak.

 

Was this in your prodigy rig? If so, then I know why it was loud for you. For some reason, when the card is on its side or upsidedown the fan bearing tends to compress oddly and makes a noticeable amount of noise. When the card is facing the right way it is near silent though, I have to press my ear to my case to hear it. My ceiling fan is louder than my computer.

Eh, at 1440p/1600p the 980s would be a better choice.

For 4k the 295x2 performs almost exactly the same, and it's way cheaper.

 

I'd go 2 980s, it should be more than enough. Just leave enough room on your power supply for a third in the future if two isnt enough
