Windows 10 Insider Topic

Gachr

Well I guess I'm the only one who's stupid enough to run it as my main OS... :D

I had nothing else to do.  I made it my main as well.   :P    from Win 7 Ultimate.  B)

Whats a proper test if not a real world one.  (worse case scenario I re-install win 7 and wait for 10.)

I haven't noticed anything wrong outside of having to re-install my GFX driver

So far I like the UI and the multi-moniter support.   Got rid of all the tiles and Apps ASAP after install.

Has anyone who has installed this developer preview and has a 4k monitor messed around with the settings to see if there is anything with text scaling, or is that still in the pipeline for some future version?

Just tried out Windows 10 Dev Preview 64bit with Virtualbox. But I'll think i'll wait until Oracle updates its Guest Additions to have a better experience with Windows 10.

I would believe that it would be a update either on the whole VirtualBox (ie a version update) or a Guest Additions ISO that you are able to download to update it.

I'll be installing it tomorrow on my main computer which is running a 4K monitor.

Told it not to import my settings from my account. Did it anyway. Dicks.

Anyway so far not way to buggy. Other than the AMD HDMI underscan issue I had with no CCC It's been smooth so far.

Fix for that

Gotta say, I'm loving the multi desktop feature. Bound it to the side button of my mouse like I do with mac/linux.

If you click a window from the other desktop in the task bar, it switches you to that desktop. Neeto.

Might make this my main setup at some point. Makes having all of my music, dev windwos, and internet browsing separate, and easy to navigate.

There's a multi monitor feature that makes your mouse stick towards the edge of the screen a bit, and you cant cross in the corners. Not sure how I feel. Im sure a lot will love it, as everyone complains about closing windows on your left screen being hard, but I've never had that issue.

muh specs

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it.

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff.

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

For anyone with slow downloads or something right now, I was able to download Windows 10 Enterprise via TechNet much faster than downloading the ISO off of the Insiders page as well as torrents.

I was considering it as well, but I don't know about stability and licensing - will Microsoft take down my system when W10 gets released?

Because VirtualBox doesn't allow x64 windows WM's, atleas for some reason i cant use then on 4.3.16. I am assuming that is what the OP is using as well, as it is the newest version.

Virtual box does support 64 Bit guests, you just have to be sure to specify that your installing one. I ran 10-x64 and 8.1-x64 for a while today on virtual box in my Mac. Only reason I uninstalled it all is because I switched to VMware on my Mac. It's all reinstalled and running again.

Okay guys, here are bugs/easter eggs that I found so far, I'll put them all in the first post.

Two task managers

beWgwJB.png

Charm bar still exists (if you click on search in apps)

7TaNQ7R.png

Clipboard doesn't work (at least for me)

Sent from Windows 10

Same as cmd, and command. Same program, different launch location. Clipboard works for me just fine within 10 and from host to VM and vice versa. Charms bar is still there normally, just can't mouse into it, have to use Win + C.

Source: On my W10 VM. Using 64 bit though, with 4GB of RAM allocated, and using VMWare Workstation

Downloading this right now and installing it in a VM later...

This would be a great contender for a pinned topic.

So how feasible for a gamer is this to run as a daily driver? I wanna reformat my SSD badly and was thinking of just getting this since I was gonna get win10 when it drops anyways.

nvidia drivers ok?

Corsair Link?

Steam?

Game compatibility?

For starters taskbar breaks every other reboot, and snapping is broken.

it's basically a 8.1 service pack, anything that works with 8.1 still works

Glad to hear that, Will wait for a few more opinions on the matter before taking the plunge but it makes me optimistic.

I didn't hear about any problems like that, they might come later though.

I was advised in another thread to not do it not til its RTM I was thinking of putting it on my 2 in 1 though as a secondary OS. Are there any guides to running 2 OSs on here? I've never done it before.

They most definitely will, at least that's what they did with Windows 8 (I believe you had 30 days to buy it or something like that).

I want to buy it anyway, I just dunno if I'll need to format it again.

This. Everything I have tried so far works, but there is no reason to switch. I can handle some bugs, but only if I get something out of it. So far I have noticed nothing different other then the start menu, which I never cared about anyways. I love being on the bleeding edge and I embrace change, but where is it. I haven't figured out yet why this isn't just Windows 8.2.

  • New flat design icons
  • 3, and 4 way window snap
  • Metro apps run in windows by defualt
  • Charms bar only accessible via Win + C
  • different file tree on C:\ by default
  • PC Settings, got shifted like a mofo
  • Ctrl + C, ctrl + v work in command prompt now
  • multiple work areas/desktops

just to name a few things that are new or changed....
