Maine holds 49th out of 50 states in Internet Quality strongly

Ren

This is what $61/mo on Time Warner gets you at the moment during peak traffic/evening hours in Maine, U.S.

There's so much wrong with this speedtest from my ISP tonight. Literally Australia speeds or worse. I really want to move out of New England because of this..

I made a topic a while ago about a Maine ISP, GWI, setting up fiber finally (or were supposed to) by like January 29th of this year. They ran into hurtles, went to court over it and it was rather silent. They ended up reporting that everything went ok like 2-3 months later, around late March, but never said what was going on.

Recent updates say that they're finally going to be making gigabit available in South Portland, but I'm not sure when. It gave the impression that it'll be ready within the next 2 months but with their history it could be another 6-12 months for no reason. They have a 6 month deadline to have it ready as well. The whole situation was fucky to begin with because the lines were set up and ready to use according to GWI but the contractors who built it for them said they weren't functional just yet (hence court case to enable the broadband or something like that, who really knows).

Anyway, this is kind of a big deal because the network stretches all the way down into Massachusettes, even from the top of Maine towards the Canadian border. We're struggling up here pretty bad but I hope that within the next year 100mbit-1000mbit down/up will be available. They will be symmetrical download/upload as well, like how Google has been handling things everywhere else. And GWI will be providing broadband to all ISPs in these areas for competitive reasons, but they can sell it to their customers freely of course.

Northern  New England is beautiful. But every time I go up too Maine I remember that until they get that  link to the rest of the 21st century I am going to stick it out down here in southern new england with my FIOS.

Fuck, I have like a 30-100ms ping and I can't play bf4. Mainly because of bullshit "balancing" and other crap from dice.

Up to 90 ping on US East servers for most games, often below 50, but if I try to connect to anywhere else it jumps up to 140-180+ easily. I will say that I don't complain often about TWC (unlike Comcast customers, it seems) but this has been going on for about 2 months straight, every night, and it's getting worse/leaking into the daytime hours. The one thing I can be happy about with my internet is indeed the ping, it's always reliable for gaming when on US servers it seems.

I want those speeds. Seriously, I should get 3Mb/s down and 1Mb/s up with ping from 20-50 on speedtests. Funny part is, when he was trying to help with our problem about it today, we were hitting like 1.8Mb/s down and .6Mb/s up with three people on and a ping of 50. Still think they should have much better speeds though.

Ever since he stopped.

when I'm at work

with the exception of a higher ping at home it's the same. It's just hard to go anywhere elsewhere to use internet.

This is at my grandmother's house ~5 minutes from me.

But of course this ISP doesn't service my town, so I'm stuck with comcast :( I at least get a solid 28/6 connection with comcast though, could certainly be worse!
