@d33g33 You got a nice network setup.

What are the read/write speeds you get with those Synology's?

Good question, I haven't had a look for a while and now that its filling up (only about 3.5tb free now)

First is simultaneous reads on 2 machines, basically maxing the NICs on each but out of the Synology is dual gbit NIC as well so it would have much more in it anyway. It's a bit hard to read but 98.1mb/s on the left and 94.2mb/s on the right

post-28719-0-85572800-1371813397_thumb.j

This was simultaneous writing back to the NAS at the same time, close enough to 120mb/s write. I'm happy with that!

DS1511+ with 5x WD 2Tb Greens + a d DX510 with 4x WD 3Tb Greens

Total volume 16.98tb

Can you pleas try to follow the "template" in the second post (looneys entery)

And since we are counting advertised storage, you have 22TB on this list.

Other then that, this is nice for a pre-build NAS : )

First, this is running of 2 MBs, that means 2 systems, one withe 10TB and one with 12TB.

And can you pleas try to follow the "temple" in the second post (looneys entery)

Not sure if you're trying to dig or not... if you look up the Synology products you'll see the DS1511 has processor, ram, nics etc, the DX510 is a 5 bay caddy that links back to the DS1511 by essentially an eSata connection so I would argue the point that i'm running 2 systems.

I don't see any "temples" about but if you mean template nothing was specified.

if you mean template nothing was specified.

Ill just leave this here: :P

Criteria:

Here are the criteria to get in 10TB+ list:

  • It has to be a dedicated server system (so no work/game stations), NAS and virtualization are oke though.
  • A total capacity of at least 10TB.
  • It has to be one system. (all running of one motherboard)
  • It has to be private/ home storage, don't post your company's data-server!
  • Pics or it didn't happen, and write a nice post about your system.
  • Use my post as a template for your post.

so use my post as a template, list the hardware, write something about your configuration, what you use it for, whether you back it up or not.

And because other people might want to buy the same nas, write a small review about your thoughts and experience with the nas.

DM me or make a post when you edited your post and ill add you to the list (22TB)

I did edit my post right after I posted it, to correct my error.

it still says temple and its fixed :)

Well then, looks like I found this topic just in time for my finished server. :)
Note: This rig also does some BOINC computing, hence the overpowered CPU and
cooling solution.

For those interested, build log is here.

UDPATE, 2014-MAY-10:
Most of the storage from this rig has been moved to APOLLO.

UDPATE, 2014-SEP-01:
Bought two WD Green 3 TB drives, yay, > 10 TB again! :D

Will mainly be using this as backup for APOLLO for now.
Hardware
CASE: Fractal Design R4 (modded)
PSU: Be Quiet 550 W
MB:  MSI Z77A-GD65
CPU: Intel i7 2600k (@ stock for the moment)
HS:  Custom water loop
RAM: 4 GB 2133 MHz Kingston HyperX
SSD: Intel 330 60 GB
HDD 0: WDC Blue 250 GB
HDD 1: Samsung 250 GB
HDD 2: Samsung 750 GB
HDD 3: WDC Red 3 TB

HDD 4: WDC Green 3 TB

HDD 5: WDC Green 3 TB

Software and Configuration:

I'm running Arch Linux as my OS. Filesystem is ZFS via ZFS on Linux.

As you can see from the screenshot below, I've configured my drives into two vdevs,
each running with RaidZ1, so total space available is 12 TB.

Usage:
Main data repository for me and my dad as well as storing movies and images
which then get streamed to our household. I will be setting it up so that the
machine is accessible from outside via VPN so that my dad and I can use our
data and keep it synced without constantly having to manually sync our laptops
with our main PCs.
0
I'm still working on that at the moment though so that I don't screw it up and
accidentally create a huge hole in our network security.

Additional info:
As mentioned this machine also does some computing for BOINC, hence the i7. It
also servers as our main household media PC, although content can be streamed to
any other machine.

Damn that's a thing of beauty!

Also: what shell is that?

Haha, thank you, and sorry about that! :D

Thats ZSH with a pretty customized .zshrc. Is there a thread around here somewhere

for posting config files (.vimrc etc.)? If not, I might create one and post some of

my stuff. I don't have that many custom config files, but if other people join

in I think it might be something.

Don't think there is one. Most of my config files are pretty standard.

Will most likely be hardware raid as i don't trust the mobo to handle a large raid array. Trying to sell the raid card i have in there at the moment to buy something more suited

with software i mean something like FlexRAID, so not related to the motherboard, you will even keep the data if your OS fails or whatever.

Any SSD Volumes out there?

I think most people here need high storage capacity with reasonably high speed at a normal price-point, not über high I/O with a even higher GB/dollar ratio :p

Word of advice - watch out raiding WD greens because you can run into your array dropping out.
