Games do not run

Hey LTT, I'm having a problem and I'm hoping someone will be able to help me out.

 

None of my games are working. I've gone into task manager to see if the program is freezing, and what I saw was that whenever I try to run a game, the program runs for a split second, then closes. I'm not a heavy gamer by any stretch; I'm just trying to run some simple casual games like Super Hexagon or Bejeweled. The weird thing is that these games were working a couple weeks ago on this same PC, but now that I'm trying to run them again, they refuse to work. I thought it might be an issue with a recent Windows 8 update, so I updated my other Win8PC and tried the games - they still worked. I'll detail each system below:

 

The older PC (games work):

-HP Envy 17 Laptop

-Windows 8 Pro with Media Center

-Intel Core i7 Q840 (1.87 GHz)

-8GB RAM

-ATI Mobility Radeon HD5800 Series discrete graphics

 

The tablet (games don't work)

-Microsoft Surface Pro 64GB

-Windows 8 Pro

-Intel Core i5 3317U (1.7GHz)

-4GB RAM

-Intel HD Graphics 4000

 

All drivers are up to date on both. Windows Update shows no available updates.

 

I appreciate all suggestions. Hopefully we can get this figured out so I won't be bored anymore!  :)

Yeah yeah yeah, I know, it's not a high-end gaming desktop like this forum leans toward. :P  But honestly I have no need for one. I rarely play games or need the horsepower of a desktop. I much more often need mobility, and the tablet is perfect for that.
