USB or E-SATA

Go to solution Solved by Hyydrah,

Thanks for the fast response.

Performance actually is import for me because I want to play back 1080p flawlessly. Will USB 2.0 do that for me?

It sounds like it shouldn't be a problem.

So, first of, this is my first post here :D

I just bought an Asus HDP-R1 Media Player. It was on sale and I couldn't leave it there.

But now I'm having a little bit of a dilemma. The media player has a USB 2.0 and an e-sata connection avaiable to connect a harddrive. I did some research and found out e-sata is a lot faster but also external e-sata HDD's er more expensive.

I want to play 1080P Video/Audio from the harddrive. I've read about a few cases where 2.0 worked, and some where it didn't. I'd like to know what would be my best guess. Buy the cheaper USB 2.0 or the expensive e-sata. If 2.0 works fine I'll take that. I don't need e-sata.

So, someone please help me :)

Thx

Since performance isn't a priority for you and it sounds like price is, go for the USB 2.0 drive. Good luck with your purchase.

E-Sata will give you much faster transferspeeds when putting data onto the drive.

For playback of movies / music USB2 will be fine tho. Programs will benefit from e-sata.
