Yup, we do have those. That said, they mayyy be a bit overkill for blowing clean a PC or an audio device :D.
Speaking of which, not really a purchase but something I fixed up for my local record store, so I had the chance to play around with it before it goes:

Not overkill, you can use it for filling car tires too and it blows harder than an electric air duster and long term is cheaper than cans of air. it blows so hard with my special nozzle that I've been able to clean things with less disassembly and less chemicals too.

I bought a bunch of charcoal to build a new backdrop.

Not sure how much that counts, but it looks cool, so I say it counts.

Time to find out if they will honour this price or not. Probably made a typo where it should have been £312 (average here is £300) but was typed down as £212...can't complain it literally being £100 cheaper than it should be if it does arrive 😄

(and no, this is WEX, not just some random retailer/seller)

Looking at my signature are we now? Well too bad there's nothing here...

Ah, for those not in the know, Monkeytype is a fairly popular typing test that's incredibly versatile. Customizable elements range from simply changing the color theme of your interface, to nitty-gritty stuff like how you'd like the test to handle mistypes / errors (e.g. abort test or continue, highlight them or don't highlight, etc.). Also goes without saying that the length, time, and text is up to the user's choice.

Completely free to use, though they accept donations, and they started pushing out merch sometime last year (Monkeytype Store). I bought from them last year, too.

I like what they're doing, and I like their merch, so they've got my support. 662101731173203968.gif?v=1

Ok something proper cool this time.
Bought an etched bullet decanter to match my bullet rocks glasses.
Hand made in Wisconsin, the company's name is Benshot. Feels good to support family run local businesses.

The decanter has a .50 BMG, the rocks glasses both have .45 ACP, one expanded, one intact.

so there is audio quality difference between phones and music players ? weird! i thought they both offer the same 320kbps whatsoever quality .

Your phone can probably do 44.1khz 24 bit flacs at best. That’s also about the top of most integrated audio chipsets except for the stuff on fairly high end motherboards.

This Walkman can play DSD256. To put that into a raw number comparison, a decent MP3 is 320kbps

DSD256 is 22.5mbps

MP3 tops out at the 44.1khz sampling rate.

DSD256 is 11.2mhz

It’s just drag and drop, no software required, you do have to format the sd card on the device and then put stuff on the sd card while it’s plugged into your computer which is dumb, but it works I guess, it’s not slowed down by usb so it’s not a huge deal.

The OS is about as basic as it gets and it’s why I went with the A55 and not a higher end A105, since they have the same hardware inside minus the a105 having a better amp which I don’t need with relatively low resistance iems.

Before this I used an iPod touch 2nd gen, and that’s the pinnacle of music player UI in my opinion, old iOS was great for music. I’m not a big fan of android file picker style music libraries, and the sony OS is somewhere between those two.

Because not everybody wants the shitty, cheap audio hardware that their phones offer. Some people crave a little more than their AirPods or whatever cheap thing comes with their devices because they cherish listening to music in a higher quality, and consciously as opposed to just having whatever song in garbage quality doodling in the background.

Sounds like some wanna be elitist BS to me. But I have crappy hearing.

Until you experience it yourself you wouldn’t really know. It’s something I’d recommend anyone try, get a decent flac, play it through some decent headphones. Then do the same with YouTube audio and something a little more basic that most people listen with like their regular earbuds or whatever.

And then you’d sort of see where the improvements are, and know that it goes even further than that. Just the jump to some better headphones for like 70 bucks and playing better media is really noticeable.
And then from there you get into sound cards and dacs and nicer headphones and such, start playing master quality or better audio, it just keeps getting better.

I genuinely can’t describe the difference between a 320kbps MP3 and a DSD in a finite way, there’s just _more_ to it. Being able to hear the super quiet sounds and the super loud sounds at the same time, you don’t lose anything like the way audio compression works on lesser formats, and then having the hardware to actually hear it properly makes it better and better.

When you play a song and you can close your eyes and it genuinely sounds like it’s playing around you, not just in your ears.

why a portable music player in 2021? Nostalgia?

Because i use wired headphones and IEMs for everything and we're getting to a point where a lot of new phones don't even come with headphone jacks because of #courage (thanks apple). So for people who want to keep their wired headphones, there will be no choice but to get a dedicated music player. and because i go wired, i never have to worry about my earbuds or headphones running out of power.

Plus DAPs usually have a higher output power than a phone. my M11 pro is recommended all the way up to 300Ω balanced. it can easily go higher, but thats where volume starts to be a problem. so you have a much larger range of headphones you can use with it than a phone.

3 1 foot USB-A to Lightning cables because the one I was using before broke. One is pictured because the other 2 are in use.

They're slightly shorter than the OG one which means I have to route it under my phone instead of on the side but that doesn't bother me all that much.

Yes, the USB-A plastic bit is purple.
