The first computer I programmed on back in the day, some family friends had one for their kids and lent it to me for a couple of weeks when I was about 10 or so. Scored that one for $2, although it's the German version.

Interestingly it's not a "blob chip" like many of these toys usually are but a "real" computer with discrete Z80, RAM and ROM: https://hackaday.com/2019/11/19/teardown-vtech-precomputer-1000-is-an-iconic-pc-in-a-toy-wrapper/

I might have a go at replacing the ROM with the English version since it's available, just need to order some IC sockets to make it swappable and remap the pins from the existing mask ROM to a standard EPROM/EEPROM...

Impulse bought some treats. Woodmans had Moon Pies for 50 cents each, so I got one of each flavor. I also got some mint Oreos. $5.08 in total.

GTX 690 minus fan should be arriving via UPS later today. Will post here again once it comes.

My GTX 690 is here!
In an unexpected turn of events, the thing is brand new. It's completely free from dust - and not in a cleaned way, it looks like it was never touched, the ports made their first "crack" sound as the pins readjust themselves, and the PCB is immaculate. The only thing missing is the fan.

The slot plate is a bit bent, but that's VERY easy to fix.

I got the PNY version. The only difference between the manufacturers (EVGA, ASUS, PNY, Zotac, etc.) is the way your card is labeled - they otherwise have the same PCB and cooler.

EDIT:
Forgot picture, please wait...

If you don't mind me asking, how much did it cost? I was gonna try and grab one to have a collection as I think they're awesome but with the current GPU shortage, prices seem to be inflated right now.

They were listed for $125 each, but I offered $105 and the seller accepted. They ship fast (I bought on Wednesday, I think?) but you will have to wait for a replacement fan to come from China (mine is estimated June 11th).

Ah ok, that's around how much I saw a couple weeks ago (or months; being in online school makes the time fly). I thought it was high but I guess that's what it is then.

I saw one for $85 back when I had $70, back in early April. I was going to offer $65 the next day but it was gone in about 5 minutes.

that thing is nice. The 690 is one of my favorite cards made. Was a broke college student so I had to settle with a 660 back in the day lol.

Nice! Gonna flash some custom BIOS on that one too? Would be fun to water cool it since it's missing a  fan, good excuse anyway! If you don't mind me asking, what seller and do they seem to have a large stock for sale? I'm trying to put together some sellers to watch when prices on cards drop.

Definitely 🙂

Gonna have a lot of fun overclocking this card over the summer. I'm also going to give it a custom name - something like GTX 680X2 or GTX 695 using NVCleanstall.

I've already got a replacement fan in the mail. Supposed to arrive around June 11th since it ships from China, but I don't mind too much. I've got some CPU OC'ing to keep me busy.

Nice, thanks. Interested to know how it works out in newer games being that it's kind of like 2 cards in one, like do games just use one and run at 1/2 performance or are they well enough integrated at the hardware level that the drivers present it as a single card to newer games?

Guess we'll find out! The last thing I'll be waiting on is probably the fan - PSU cables and PCIe extension are due June 2nd and June 3rd, fan is due June 11th at the earliest.

Also, any thoughts on what I should name it? I'm not set on anything right now.

Backordered the new GamersNexus Vault modmat yesterday. Of course I opted for it being autographed.

You can take a look at all of the Tech that I own and have owned over the years in my About Me section and on my Profile.

I'm Swiss and my Mother language is Swiss German of course, I speak the Aargauer dialect. If you want to watch a great video about Swiss German which explains the language and outlines the Basics, then click here.

If I could just play Videogames and consume Cool Content all day long for the rest of my life, then that would be sick.
