Drop + Matt3o /dev/tty MT3 Keycap Set

Bleached Set. Purchased from Drop for $55.00.

(Lighting in the living area is flooded with warm yellow lights, so the keycaps look a waaay more yellow-y in the photo than they actually are IRL.)

OI OI OI!

Das real sexy. 693141953055031338.gif

Would like to add that $55.00 for a full set (and then some) of non-Cherry/OEM profile keycaps is extremely reasonable. 👌 Blank keycap sets in different profiles are quite rare, thank goodness that in my case, niche demand(?) didn't mean stupid high selling prices. 619039042725740563.gif

[Squints and side-eyes PMK. 766710897640079380.png:anger:]

Now, lessee these modifier keycaps...

...Which ones go where, now? 🤣

[...Squints extremely hard.]

I bought a Xeon E3-1231 V3 on eBay for cheap, for an mITX build I've been piecing together over time. Basically an i7 4770 without the graphics built-in, and way cheaper.

The system is going to be:

  • Xeon E3-1231 V3
  • Asrock H81M-ITX
  • EVGA GTX 950 2gb ITX-sized
  • 2x4GB 1600mhz DDR3
  • 512GB ADATA SU800 SSD
  • Cougar QBX ITX case
  • Delta-made ASUS PSU from ages ago

Outside of buying the SSD and case new (and they were on sale or a deal), every other piece was bought used from eBay, or free. I may change the PSU since it's old and loud, and I'm running an Intel "box" cooler on the i3 that's in this system now. I don't think that cooler has the oomph for an 80watt TDP chip, so I'll be finding something else.

Xeon.jpg

My Current Setup:

AMD Ryzen 5900X

Kingston HyperX Fury 3200mhz 2x16GB

MSI B450 Gaming Plus

Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo

EVGA RTX 3060 Ti XC

Samsung 970 EVO Plus 2TB

WD 5400RPM 2TB

EVGA G3 750W

Corsair Carbide 300R

Arctic Fans 140mm x4 120mm x 1

Got myself a little NUC I'm planning to run Linux on as sort of a main desktop replacement. Seems that both my memory and SSD got detected just fine, but I'm still waiting for a KVM switch to arrive tomorrow before starting tinkering. After that it's onwards to NAS upgrade...

Got the Xtrfy M42 in retro color ... first lightweight mouse.  The shape is perfect for me with the fast back cover.  I like that it doesn't have any software for rgb and everything is on the hardware.  One thing that bothers me is that the light coming from under the side button is always a bit reddish/pink tint.   There's something like 10 or 11 increment of light brightness from off to full.  You can adjust the speed of the animation in I think 3 increment.  There's different mode of lighting like rainbow, color pallet breathing, some kind of gyro light, light click, etc. (haven't explored them all) and you can use a choice of 7 color in solid, static or breathing too ... and also there's off completely which is the one I prefer.

These tapes actually came Christmas Eve and I already showed one of the tapes off, but I figure that I should show off the rest:

IMG_0904.JPG

Front to back:

It's a Mystery, Charlie Brown - Travelodge print, Paramount Communications-era tape

You Don't Look 40, Charlie Brown (doesn't come from this tape lot but shown to complete my Travelodge set) - Travelodge print, also Paramount Communications-era tape

Happy New Year, Charlie Brown - third copy I own, Paramount Communications-era tape

It's Arbor Day, Charlie Brown - Viacom-era tape

Snoopy Double Feature: Charlie Brown's All Stars/It's Spring Training, Charlie Brown - Viacom-era tape

That's... three new tapes to add to the ever-growing collection of Paramount-distributed Peanuts tapes. It's not getting cheap from this point, folks.

I almost never buy clothes for myself. Correction: I almost never buy clothes, period. My current wardrobe consists of 95% clothes I don't wear on a daily basis, and maybe 10 or so black shirts and 3 jeans that I cycle through every week, not counting the plain white shirts and black/gray long pants I wear as sleepwear. You can call me boring or unfashionable, I call it stress-free uniformity and simple laundry. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

MonkeyType Merch caught my eye because big #KeebWeeb and 766816580461920276.gif is cute but Clack Cat shirts aren't sold anymore but 788501181335863395.gif also cute and is in-stock! So...

Typing Monkey Prints - White Shirt + Black Shirt

I wanna say they're screen printed...?

Biggest concern for me was the graphic print. 'Chew likes simple laundry. Some prints are harder to take of than others.

Honestly? Wasn't expecting high quality prints from Teespring, and I guessed rightly.

Outline on the white shirt is fine. Grittiness is more noticeable on the black shirt. Ah, well.

20201226_133010.jpg

Fit - Long Sleeve Tee Sleeve

Fitting was a secondary concern because the plan was, if the shirt didn't fit me, I'd use it as slightly-oversized sleepwear or homewear.

To my pleasant surprise, all four shirts fit my body quite nicely. Sleeves, especially so.

20201226_132527.jpg

Not Selfie

Haaay. Das me.

Flat chest is justice. Also, way easier to shop unisex clothes for.

Shirt is comfy. It's 100% cotton, apparently.

IF I were being nitpicky, I'd say the material is a bit rougher compared to my other brand-name shirts. I am not that nitpicky.

If anyone else is interested: Monkeymerch | Teespring. Prices are a bit on the pricey side, though.

Don't buy if you're looking for the best manufacturing quality or the most comfortable shirt for your money.

Do buy if you want to support MonkeyType and like the design.

...I woulda bought a hoodie too, but they don't have any zip-up ones. 769979590663208993.png

Custom Double Sleeved Coiled Cable

Purchased for $69.00 from StrikerCables! (Etsy Product Page)

20201230_181532.jpg

Black Cerakoted GX16 Connector + 8" (20 cm) Coil

Haven't seen too many cable vendors offer Cerakote/colored aviator connectors. Went with StrikerCables because they did. 👍

Er, ignore the white specks in the cabling -- that's just light reflecting off the Techflex material. Everything is beautifully black. 👌

Honestly, this was a surprisingly stress-free and overall incredibly pleasant purchasing experience for me, especially from a marketplace like Etsy. Highlights:

  • Free shipping, but both the seller and myself happen to be situated in Cali (i.e. I'm unsure whether other states receive free shipping as well).
  • Seller contacted me 25 minutes after I placed my order to tell me they're working on my cable that night, on Dec 23.
  • Etsy's ETA for shipping was Jan 4 - Jan 8. That two-week delivery estimate already looked a lot more promising than ones given by established keyboard cable vendors.
  • Shipping and tracking info was actually sent on Dec 28, and I received my cable today, Dec 30.
  • Product arrived customized exactly as I ordered it, it's compatible with both of my USB-C keyboards, and I've been satisfied with my inspection of its build quality.

I don't normally leave reviews on product pages, but I'm definitely going to sing praises about this particular one.

Sample size of one, but I can wholeheartedly recommend this seller for anyone looking to spruce up their keebs (StrikerCables Etsy Store Page and their Custom Cable Product Page). They do Micro-USB and Mini-USB cables as well. Read up the product page description for a better idea of the level of customizability the seller offers.

I can confidently say the custom cable is going to be a permanent addition to the Eighty #391 keyboard. That is how satisfied I am with this product and this purchase. For those interested, here's the Eighty #391 update, with additional details and photos:

Well, I was gonna get @pinksnowbirdie an eBay gift card for our anniversary, but eBay doesn't like to work.

Oh well, a trip to Walmart later in the day will solve that issue.
