Much prefer VR, but in the meantime... 

 

I actually got pseudo-VR to work on my Quest too, but since that's pretty low res I can decide between best immersion but lowish res with the Quest and my 50" 4K TV with the TrackIR depending on the mood...

I haven't used TrackIR but I made my own IR tracker a few years ago (you can use a cheap webcam + a couple of infrared LEDs to make your own for practically nothing). As you look around the view in game changes but the monitor stays in the same spot so you end up facing your wall and trying to look back towards your monitor to see the screen. You can change sensitivity to make it more sensitive so you don't need to look as far away from the centre of the monitor to look around in game, but then it starts to pick up minor head movements and makes it very disorientating. Tracking can also drift if you're playing a while or it loses view of the IR LEDs if you turn your head too far and you end up needing to keep resetting to centre and recalibrating it.

In my experience it was more of a hassle than it was worth. Sounds good, doesn't work

I was playing on a 22" monitor sitting a foot or two away, but if you're playing on a 50" TV from several feet away then I think your experience would be quite different to mine.

I had done that before too, and unsurprisingly the TrackIR works much better, not losing tracking and the software has proper profiles for most games you'd want to use it with.

 

Still annoying to have amplified movements because the screen isn't following you, that's why I spent time on getting the VR headset working. But at least you can move around the view without grabbing a control...

I understand when it was peak Covid, but seems they haven't fixed anything since then.

Been a couple of days now (nearly a week in fact) but I've just upgraded my phone to a Sony Xperia 1 II...

 

All in all I'm pretty impressed, especially the display which looks stunning. Thought the 4K IPS LCD display on the Xperia XZ Premium looked good, but the 4K OLED panel on this phone is just next level. Colours pop, blacks are insane, dynamic range is off the charts & the sharpness of even 1080P/720P content is mind blowing. The 21:9 aspect ratio is also a treat to use, makes so much more sense than the pointless 20:9 ratio.

Need a Logitech Webcam too, the built in one in my Laptop is just looking at my fingers and it's not even centered and it's 720p.
