But my Asus PB278Q just arrived today... :(

Don't worry mate. Enjoy that awesome display. It's still a fantastically amazing PLS monitor. :)

TFTcentral doesn't test for this. They usually ask the manufacture for the panel manufacture and model, and look at their manual, if not open the monitor. This time they didn't open the monitor (no picture of it, as they usually do), so they ask ASUS for it, and was given it (Samsung LTM270DL02 - true 8-bit panel, I checked). Assuming there is no error in the received model, then yes it is true 8-bit panel.

Sadly, no other reviewer or user opened theirs to know for sure. So, I assume ASUS manual is correct, as they know what they used, and the wrong model was given to TFTCentral by ASUS. A single number wrong on the model number can point to a different specs panel. If the wrong info was passed from different departments before reaching TFTCentral, then this is problematic.

But fine, lets leave it as a mystery.

Well at least we know that the PB278QR with use a true 8-bit AH-IPS panel @GoodBytes. :D

This is great for me since I've just started saving for the PB278Q. Might save up a bit more (assuming the new one will be more expensive as they usually are) and get me a QR instead.

Pretty sure the PB27QR hasn't been released yet. Are you getting the older, soon to be replaced PB278Q?

Good updates but I am personally waiting for a 4k IPS model to drop into the $500-600 range. May take a while :D

It's been released in certain EU countries, i have a QR. I didn't have the original Q so I can't compare, but everything is amazing apart from a fuking pixel which is black on a white background and green on a black background, anyway to fix it?

We can only hope. I've been looking around and cannot find a solid release date for anywhere except Europe, where it's apparently already available. I might suggest trying to find a European store online that stocks them. Some of the other members here may be able to recommend one to look at.

Been using it the last few hours, it's a really nice monitor, my old monitor was a 22 inch samsung syncmaster, so it's a big step up. Only negative is that it has one stuck pixel, and one dead one, but I can't actually see them unless i glue my face to the monitor and look for them.
