Hi. I am planning to buy a 8GB kit and was wondering about the importance and influence of RAM latency and frequency. What has a bigger impact on general performance, low latency or higher frequency ?

Does any kind of software benefit from something like 2800 MHz RAM ? Some data suggests that I wouldn't gain more than one single fps... so I'm confused.

Thank you in advance for your help!

You won't benefit alot, if any at all from going massively overkill on ram speed. In fact, if you go too far, 2800 MHz falls into this category, you risk the performance being worse, as your motherboard is no designed around that type of speed, thus it becomes unstable and you will run into more problems than benefits. Between 1333-1600-1866 is the optimum at this moment in time, and most programs run best on these speeds.

It used to be different, however now frequency makes a larger difference in performance than latency. Despite this unless you use your PC for photo/video editing and other similar applications any performance boost will be hard to notice, if not non-existant.
