Nearly twice the screen real estate, how would it not be worth it?

EVERYTIME you're using your PC, you're looking at your monitor, wouldn't it make sense to spend a lot on the monitor? :P

1920x1080 = 2073600 pixels

2560x1440 = 3686400 pixels

3686400/2073600 = 1.77.... times as many pixels

im running 1440p on my gtx 760.... usually get around 60fps at medium-high settings. I don't see why everyone yells that you need something ridiculous like 2 GTX titans to play on medium settings.

Yeah, I know, but still before it becomes as mainstream as 1080p there's still time. Think at the sheer size of movie files and how much it currently costs to set yourself up with a 4k tv for like 2 movies in total. And there will have to be new blu-ray readers that support displayport or hdmi 2.0 and a lot of people are more than content with 1080p. for the moment I think it will be big in the enthusiast and gamer world, but it won't properly get to the living room for another few years imo.

I just think its a bad investment since manufactures have said they will start 8k production in 2020 atleast u will get like 5 years out of your 4k monitor if u buy pretty soon.

As I said, I have mine on the way b) I don't think 8k will be relevant anytime soon, maybe we will get the first 8k monitors in 2020 but they will be like what we had 2 years ago for 4k, crazy expensive, low quality panels, refresh rate issues, and also bare in mind people won't switch to 8k for movies pretty much ever as 4k is already such a high resolution that from your couch you can't tell the difference between that and something higher. Even for desktop monitors there's a limit over which it becomes snake oil, you won't be able to properly use an 8k display on a 28" monitor, you wouldn't see the pixels even from really close. And no pc user would want to have a 50" monitor for work. Also modern graphics cards BARELY manage 4k ultra, and they're in the more expensive range, so if in 5-6 years we get 8k we probably won't be able to drive it even on low.

I have 1080p tv and monitors in my house but im pretty sure ive never seen a full 1080p movie because Australian internet sucks and we have bandwidth caps i just buy for the sake of it and screen real estate also average consumers arent going to know the difference alot of people buy it because its the next best thing i do think once 8k comes out it will be just like 4k also gaming isnt everything.

True, but if you can't see the pixels anymore it's like not having them. Which sucks for professionals too.
