media center pc not playing 1080p

27-bit

I thought that i hook my old Pentium 4 desktop to my 46' tv and used it as a media center pc. But i found out that it can't play 1080p videos.

The specs are : *Intel D865PERL

                       *Pentium 4 @ 3.2GHz

                       *1.5 GB RAM

                       *XFX 6200a-le 256MB (AGP)

1) Is it hopeless to play 1080p content on this machine or is there anything that i could do?

2) I was thinking of building a new pc since i already have a psu, 4GB ddr3 RAM and a Radeon 4670 1GB card. I only need a cpu and a board, what would you suggest keeping the price as low as possible (AMD is not an option for me because it is not available in my country).

AMD is not at all available in your country?

Well if you do decide to go with the building new PC plan, you could always get a decent older dual core and mobo or even a newer i3 which would be fine for HTPCs.

Is this the real life? Or is this just fantasy?

you'll need about a core 2 duo at 2ghz to play 1080p

and I'd say an i3 isn't needed, just get the cheapest pentium/celeron you can if you're strapped for cash and only intend to watch videos.

Will work for electronic components and parts

You sure a core 2 duo can do the job?

I have a 1.8ghz core 2 duo that can play 1080p

my single core 3ghz celeron can't.

Both using integrated video.

keep in mind these are socket 775 so they are old. if you can get a sandy/ivy bridge even the lowest end shouldn't have a problem with 1080p
