Ubisoft Explains Why Watch Dogs On PC Had Hidden Graphic Options

The dev team is completely dedicated to getting the most out of each platform, so the notion that we would actively downgrade quality is contrary to everything we've set out to achieve. We test and optimize our games for each platform on which they're released, striving for the best possible quality. The PC version does indeed contain some old, unused render settings that were deactivated for a variety of reasons, including possible impacts on visual fidelity, stability, performance and overall gameplay quality. Modders are usually creative and passionate players, and while we appreciate their enthusiasm, the mod in question (which uses those old settings) subjectively enhances the game's visual fidelity in certain situations but also can have various negative impacts. Those could range from performance issues, to difficulty in reading the environment in order to appreciate the gameplay, to potentially making the game less enjoyable or even unstable.

Yeah................. so they went to the trouble of making all the textures/settings and only when it got tested did the decide to disable them... thats pure ballocks imo, What company would waste resources and leave testing like that to the very end!.... Ubisoft for new EA!

They seriously are just full of ****.  It started with Rayman Legends with me and it just continues on and on.  Lucky while I did buy one of their games new I did not pay close to MSRP for it so that is good.  Still after that purchase I didn't give them a dime of my money.  I look forward to buying their crap used for console when I can or dirt cheap on pc when I can so they make jack ****.

Even though users of the mod actually have declared that this deactivated alone does not change the performance on PC that great. Ubisoft, think of something better to say next time your game doesn't run well on PC. I mean, even without the mod, it still runs pretty horrible for a 'PC focused game'

Better or same performance, better graphics = possibly, maybe bad. We can't give you any specifics, because there are none, but take our word for it. We know you have no reason to trust us after we told you there was no graphics downgrade, but please don't use this mod and see how badly we f'd over PC gamers, because our money isn't infinite and we have paid a lot to "game journalist" sites to sweep this under the rug. Also Farcry 4 will be MAXED on a PS4, and that isn't because we refuse to make a good PC port, it is because the PS4 is all powerful and not because we have a movie deal with Sony Pictures for a Watch Dogs movie.

I actually think that EA currently is actually trying to not be shit, Ubisoft may already be worse than them. 
We'll know soon if that's the case though.
