I keep hearing bad things about this router, like how the internet connection drops and stuff. Also I am not sure whether it will give more than 100 mbps on 2.4ghz wifi when connected to main router via ethernet cable.

I only need it for 1 room and thinking whether i should save money and go with tp link 845n. i have a ethernet cable available in that room through the main router. I will connect one smartphone and one laptop. My connection is 30mbps at the moment.

Your connection with the ISP will be slower than the fastest link on the C24, which is 100Mbps on ethernet, so why do you need more on 2.4GHz?

Unless you're using 40MHz on 2.4GHz with a perfectly clear spectrum, you're lucky to see beyond 50Mbps on 2.4GHz. Lots of wireless congestion happens on 2.4GHz in residential neighbourhoods so I'd recommend you use the 5GHz band for less interference if in close range.

Sorry I meant 5ghz not 2.4ghz. My main usage will on room. My main router is a gigabit one. One review said that c24 gives around 96 on both 2.4 and 5ghz.
