Should I get a 1440P or 1080P monitor for my arc B580?

As of late I've been upgrading my battlestation so it's time for a new monitor. Would like some recs on the balance between resolution and refresh rate, I typically play Forza Horizon 5, Spiderman, City Skylines, Fortnite, FF7 remake, Fallout: 3,4, new vegas, stray. might prefer nice graphics over high frame rates,

BTW, upgrading from 75Hz 1080p that I will be using for my second monitor

I'd stay 1080p and enjoy better settings than lower them for 1440p.  My opinion.

I'd go 1440p, since monitors tend to last several GPU generations and 1440p also gives you more screen to work with outside of games. You can always turn down resolution in games and/or use XeSS. Or simply play more demanding games on the second screen.

B580 is 7% faster than 1080Ti, which is a ballpark of "just barely enough for 1440p" in my opinion.

At least if you're realistic about graphics settings and don't expect the card to run 2025+ games on Ultra + RT settings.

1440p 144Hz+ monitors have become quite cheap lately, coming from 1080p 60-75Hz if you don't choose the cheapest option but something decent or better it's a welcome improvement and experience.

But it's his main use by far, as he himself states.  You can get a 4 K monitor, for Windows and web browsing according to that logic.

Why 1080p? Do you hate pixel density?

And it's not barely getting into resolution, B580 has 12GB of VRAM, and like I said it's faster than 1080Ti.

I did say you have to be realistic and don't expect running Ultra on 2025+ games, which is exactly what this card's approximate performance is.

Some games need FSR/XeSS, some games will run natively:

Just looks like limping into 1440p.  Not even 60fps even with frame gen.  Medium Stalker 2 at 46?  No thank you.

Look, it's a decent gpu.  But it's not a 1440p modern gaming GPU.  12GB VRAM isn't  some magical 1440p tier.  It can have 15 BILLION GB and it still won't do 1440p well enough for me.

I am glad you posted numbers for the OP to make his decision though.  Ultimately his call.

Do you need 120fps for games like Black Myth: Wukong?

What year is Black Myth: Wukong released?

What year ls Stalker 2?

Are they games from 2017?

Are those not Ultra settings?

Would it be a ridiculous thing to say that if I buy a 1440p monitor that I use as my main display, then simply use the old 1080p 75hz as a secondary monitor, that if something's too intense for one resolution I A: Scale it down to 1080p on my higher refresh rate 1440p display, or B: simply use my old display

That's what podkall was showing.  The XESS upscaling does just that, render in 1080p and upscale to 1440p.  So even with that, you only get sub-60 fps.   Of course if that's okay, or you don't play those games... your call.

Gaming on the secondary monitor is odd, as it's to the side. Are you going to physically move it or game off center?

Some things to think about.
