Hey all, I recently built a PC for a friend using the following components:

  • Motherboard: Gigabyte Aorus Ultra B650i

  • CPU: Ryzen 7 9700X

  • RAM: Corsair Vengeance 32GB (16x2) 6000MT/s

  • PSU: Corsair SF850

  • GPU: Gigabyte RTX 4070 Super (purchased new in August 2024, used daily without issues until last week)

  • Case: Fractal Terra

(PC Part Picker Link: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/xGF9Yd)

The issue:
Every so often — especially during gaming — both monitors go black, the system crashes, and the GPU fans ramp to 100%. I suspect it’s GPU-related, but I’ve gone through a lot of troubleshooting steps already.

What I’ve tried (unsuccessful):

  • Testing one RAM stick at a time

  • Swapping RAM slots

  • Disabling EXPO/XMP

  • Removing the PCIe riser and plugging the GPU directly into the motherboard

  • Forcing PCIe slot to Gen 3

  • Disabling Resizable BAR

  • Updating/reinstalling NVIDIA drivers

What did work:

  • Swapping in my old EVGA 980ti → no crashes

  • Swapping in my new Gigabyte RTX 5090 → no crashes

  • Putting the “problem” RTX 4070 Super back into my own PC → works perfectly

So to summarize:
The RTX 4070 Super causes crashes only in this new build. It works fine in my original PC. And the new build runs great with other GPUs. I’m stuck.

Has anyone seen this kind of issue before? Could it be something like a compatibility quirk with the B650i board, power delivery, or BIOS settings? Any other ideas or things to try would be greatly appreciated!

Try ddu and reinstall your gpu drivers (ddu uninstalls your gpu drivers) if that doesn't work then your graphics card is toast and you should rma (warranty repair)
