RX6800XT buzzing sound under load

I got a used RX6800XT and its making a cricket like sound under load. The temperatures and performance seem to be within order for this card but this sound is very annoying when I play games. I have never heard it like this before but it does sound like coilwhine.  Never heard coilwhine start and stop so frequently but the noise itself is identical to normal coilwhine.

Its not dangerous, its not harmful and will not affect the lifespan of the product, its just incredibly annoying if its loud.

I personally had to RMA a 2080 Super due to excessive coilwhine.

 

All high end cards will have some sort of coilwhine, all my GPU's over the years have had it but some are worse than others.

Yeah it is pretty weird sounding as i couldnt match it to any other videos on the internet for coil whine. It almost sounds like a hard disk writing very weird and annoying sound. When I tested the gpu at the guy I bought it from there was no noise, so I thought I did something wrong.

Understood.

What PSU do you have?
PSUs with weak or poorly regulated 12V rails can exacerbate this issue with GPUs, leading to more noticeable coil whine

Its a CoolerMaster 650W V2 I just got it brand new to power this card. Btw thanks for the replies!

Can you give a bit more details on it?
There are a few 650 V2 models.

That is indeed a very solid PSU.  I am just double checking if there are any notes on it on the updated PSU Tierlist.

I find nothing worth keeping in mind on this one, its a very good PSU.

Yep I checked that tierlist before buying it and thats why I chose it. So you think this is just coil whine from the GPU?

From personal experience and knowledge, I would say yes.

Its a bit strange but I have heard some cards with strange coilwhine.

 

If you get the FPS you expect and everything is working as it should, I wouldn't worry.

Yeah I tested it in FurMark and a couple of games, performance is as expected for the card. Thanks for the help!

Well, thats good!   I know that high end AMD cards from that era usually have quite high coilwhine.

 

What you can do is try to undervolt it if you want, that sometimes help with coilwhine.

Limiting framerate can also help with coilwhine, lets say you have a 144hz monitor but you are getting 250 fps, limiting framerate to 144 can significantly reduce coilwhine.

You can probably hear the GPU scream in the menus if its getting 700+ fps.

It's just coil whine. My 6800 XT has one of the worst I've ever heard. Nothing you can really do about it. The noise gets worse the more FPS you've got so if you use FPS cap you can somewhat reduce it but it makes playing with headphones mandatory.

Just an update now I'm using Topaz AI to enhance a video and I get a different sound that is more constant and a bit higher pitched more in line with the usual coil whine so I think this confirms its definitely coil whine.
