Can agree.

If I were to buy some decent headphones purely for gaming and watching movies, DT770's would be my go to again.

i always used a big uncomfortable cheap ebay ripoff headset and i was look to replace it, so i got a hyperx cloud wireless 3, and it was muffled and seemingly had bad sound quality. i returned it when i couldnt make it sound good, despite being triple the price of the rinky dink old headset i had. today i got an arctis nova 7 and it sounds just as muffled as the hyperx cloud wireless 3. for both headsets the audio quality on speaking and youtube videos was great, but whenever i would boot up a game (i used bandit's gunshots from Risk of Rain 2 (and just general gameplay) as the audio i was basing it off) and the game was muffled. even turning on sonar in the steelseries app didnt work. i really need a solution if anyone knows why the cheap ebay headphones with no brand from china id been using had good game sound quality but 150 dollar name brand headphones dont.

So could ya get like some dirt cheap apple earpods? That or got anything else where you can plug a headphone in to test the sound?

May just be you are not used to muddy gamer bass these headsets have and focus hard on. The same reason I HATE the arctis 7 but really enjoy my cheap wired arctis 3 muh flatter sound with much less forced bass

it probably is the muddy bass or whatever since my cheap headset didnt have that, but all other headsets i tried did. is there any way to negate it in the app or do i just gotta deal with bad sound quality

They are made to do that. You just gotta buy a different kind of headset!

A lottanpeople like the dt770 + a modmic as a combo. Its 170 last I checked but both of those are leagues ahead sound quality wise.

Else almost any gaming headset goes HEAVY on the bass. Its why prople that dont want that opt for normal good headphones and add a mic themselves

thanks ill look into getting the dt770

They are true and tested!  Very common to see these in music studios and recording studios.

I bought my own DT770's over 20 years ago and they still work without issues.

I do use an external DAC and drive the DT770's from a standalone amplifier however.

I do use my SteelSeries Arctis Pro for gaming and general use, I like the noise cancelling.

The reason for mentioning that many people use them in studio's for voice and recording is that they are incredibly good...

You are taking this out of context.

Just because you are not in a studio doesn't mean they are not for you, there is a reason they are popular.

They are fantastic for gaming and very comfortable.

I avoid Skullcandy, they are 'overhyped' compared to properly good headphones.

If you are looking for cheaper than DT770's then go with something like the Sony MDR7506 for closed back or Phillips SHP 9500. They are not bass heavy and on paper seem like would be great for game sounds.
