So... AKG K361/K371 vs ATH-M40x vs DT770 PRO 35/80 Ohms?

I'm considering buying one of these headphones for sound editing in Premiere Pro/Davinci Resolve and some sound design in Ableton.

I’ve tried the ATH-M40x, and they sound pretty good to me especially because they’re quite neutral and I can hear each instrument clearly. The only downside is that the headband is quite tight, and after 2–4 hours I really start to feel the pressure. I don't have any issues with the ear pads, just the headband.

I haven’t tested the AKG K361/K371 yet, but from what I’ve heard, they’re more comfortable, though not ideal for mixing due to having a bit more bass.

I’ve also looked into the Beyerdynamic DT770 PRO, and while they’re said to be much more comfortable, they also have very deep bass, which might be too much for precise editing.

Which of these would be the best choice for video/sound editing, SFX, etc. but also work well for casual music listening and gaming?

I have no experience with the ATH-M40x, but your assumptions elsewhere are correct from my memory. I wouldn't say that the DT770 has deep bass but it's been years since I have heard them. The DT series is commonly referred to as studio headphones. The K361 on the other hand has plentiful bass, not bloated by much but there is plenty of it there.

One thing to consider is that you can "tune" the sound of the headphones with pad's, and the DT series has the most options All of them however will be great for music and gaming.

Unless you work in a very expensive environment where you need precise sound, it doesn't really matter if certain studio headphones have slightly stronger bass.

You can also just slightly weaken the bass in EQ of the entire PC if you need to.

I would pick the DT 770 Pro 80 ohm.
Yes, the bass is deep.. but if you're skilled enough to mix audio, then you're skilled enough to EQ your headphones to a flatter sound profile.

Plus, you won't 100% use the headphones for sound editing. They will be fun for everything outside of editing.
