A while back I received a 1tb Team Group MP44L SSD with my 7600x purchase. When I built my computer, I put it in the secondary M.2 slot, but haven't done anything with it yet(except initializing it in Disk Management).

I'm looking for ideas, as I am having trouble finding a use for it. At the moment, I am leaning towards using it as a media dump (pictures, videos, audio files, etc.), as my steam library isn't very big, and can easily fit on my main drive. I'm curious if the community has any creative ideas/important knowledge.

(My main drive is an Inland TN450 1TB)

Well that depends on your usecase. I'm currently using 4 NVMe drives and I use 2 of them for different types of storage, but not archiving. These drives are cheap enough now that depending your budget, you could do whatever you want with them. I got rid of my HDD years ago to have a more noise-free environment. The price for an NVMe of the same speed and size is not going to go up, so just put it in there and use it as if it's just extra storage

Well when the time comes to store more stuff then you can use it, you can also use it as a backup drive. There is not much to do unless you want to experiment with dual booting which I am assuming you don’t.

Thanks for your input. I have actually dual-booted before, but that is not what I currently plan to do. I think I will just use it as a media dump.

Team Group MP44L 1TB

We know of 4 version so far:
Phison E21T + 176l TLC Micron

Phison E27T + 162l TLC Kioxia

Maxio MAP1602A + 128l TLC YMTC

Maxio MAP1602A + 162l TLC Kioxia

they should be clouse in performance

IF you don’t need that space, use it as a backup, you can use veeam for Windows ( it’s free )

Keep your OS on the primary drive and move your games, documents and download locations and other personal data to the new drive.

That way if something screws up and you have to re-install Windows, you don't have to worry about personal files and games.

I would also suggest getting a HDD for actual backups and data storage because SSD's are known for dying with little warning.

Worst case I've heard was two weeks, best case was about 10 years, but when they fail they do so quickly and irreversibly; I.E. data is lost.

I always have the OS on one drive and DATA on another with HDD's for long term storage.

Thanks, I have a few extra laptop hdd's, would they work for backups?
