I love my MacBook so much but im getting kind of mad. Im using a native 1440p monitor with my MacBook, but I wanted to use 1080p for gaming (yes I know, gaming) to get better fps, but I can't get 1080p without blowing up all the icons on the display, Mac OS calls this "feature" hidpi, which makes everything look crisp even at lower resolutions, I DON'T CARE I JUST WANT A NORMAL SCALE 1080P! Is that too much to ask?? anyways, I was just wondering if anyone on this forum knows a trick to get 1:1 1080p. Thanks.

by 1:1 1080p do you want black borders?

Otherwise use the show all resolutions option when you alt click the resolutions, or use something like better display tool to set it to 1080p/1440p without high dpi.

Can you not set the games full screen resolution to 1080p?

My gaming PC really cant push newer titles well. Especially since I have a 1440p Ultrawide. So I run games on my Ultrawide at 1920x1080. I have black bars as a result but dont really care. Try setting the resolution in the game vs trying to set the resolution in the Mac Settings.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

That just sounds like normal behavior when lowering resolution. Like, the icons are usually a specified number of pixels tall, when you reduce the number of pixels being displayed, the icons appear to get bigger.

Also, note that for what I understand 1:1 scaling to be a thing, you need to jump *two* resolution tiers. Like, if you have a QHD (1440p) display, you would want to scale to HD (720p) to avoid dithering. If you do that, every 1 pixel in the image is displayed across a 2x2 square. If you don't do that, you end up forcing the monitor to try and smear each image pixel across ~1.41 display pixels
