When I am in a dark room watching content, I can't see much in the dark scenes and if I increase my brightness, I get flash banged in the brighter scenes. How to fix this?

I heard there is an option in Windows 11 which changes the brightness upon the content being viewed. Is this a new feature? I didn't see it before. And I am not using Windows 11.

In general, how is this problem fixed? Do modern TVs have such features?

And I never realized how bad LCD actually is when watching dark content in a dark room. Or is it a Glossy vs Matt display thing? I am not sure but I think mine is Matt. I feel like a lot of light is being stuck behind the display and being spread, affecting the brightness of the actual colors.

LCD contrast is pretty poor, I think VA panels peak out at about 5000:1. Multiple dimming zones are probably your only option if you want LCD with good contrast, or stacking panels. Glossy vs matte only affects contrast significantly  when ambient light is at play.

Is this HDR or SDR content? You can play with brightness on your monitor, but there really isn't a good auto function normally as that in my view makes it look much worse if the creator is trying to grade footage with bright and dark scenes.

The auto-brightness feature is only for laptops.

Have you tried playing with the color calibration feature on your display? Blacks in the dark shouldn't be a problem for an LCD TV.

Ugh, why are all these great features going to laptops! 😅

Then the brightness settings are under System Settings -> Display. If there isn't, check your power plan settings for the display power saving(Control Panel ->Power Options->Change...).

But also run the display calibration(Control Panel->Color Management under Advanced tab).😅
