I used to play doom eternal with good performance on my laptop, high settings everything else default and it was working great. It didn't have metrics on but for sure i was getting 60fps locked in. The Nvidia app got updated (I didn't change any settings) and suddenly my fps dropped to 30 and the game is very choppy. I tries running on the lowest setting and still 30 fps, I tried all vsync settings too. My drivers are updated.

I also opened up the laptop and reseated the RAM (had to check the model number) but I don't think this could ever do anything.

How did you manage to get nvidia drivers from the future?

Which GPU is the game using. Maybe updating the nvidia app changed which GPU is being used.

Are the nvidia GPU drivers version 576.80 ? that is the latest and was released two days ago.

https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/drivers/results/

(click the "find" button)

I tried reinstalling the game, gpu drivers, and also rollback the drivers, still no improvement, and yes, the driver version is 576.80
The Nvidia geforce experience app doesn't have any settings to change gpu and i think the game is using the right GPU because i can see in settings that it says 3694/4151 MB for vram.
The game is playable only when I drop resolution to 1280x720 from 1920x1080

In the Nvidia app it says "Unable to retrieve current values. Starting and closing the game or app, or editing the settings, should fix this problem" next to doom eternal
I also have red dead redemption installed and its is being recognized and optimized by the Nvidia appimage.thumb.png.bfac37e54248c2b53b078c10991bfdd8.png

you could try using DDU (display driver uninstaller) to fully remove the Nvidia drivers then reinstall  them
