Aw. I was hoping Zip Tie Tuning was going to be an officially sanctioned side project, testing the waters for expanding into the gearhead niche. Excited to see where they're going with it though, Alex and Andy always made the videos they were in better!

Dennis just left recently as well, but for unrelated reasons. Leave, laugh, Liao. 😞

I sold my soul for ProSupport.

Best of luck to all three and anyone else who has left or will leave on their future endeavors 🙂

I was kind of hoping it was like that too, but I guess they can do it outside of LTT.

I kind of hope that Alex can host more of those extreme water cooling build videos.

Recently they started a channel called Zip Tie Tuning, and today they both posted they have left LMG. They will be missed, but it's cool that they started something new. Good luck guys!

Awwe man. I hoped Zip Tuning would be a side job. I really liked Alex and his sketchy solutions to everything. He was a fun guy. I'll miss him. 😔

This is absolutely TERRIBLE news!!!  Alex is the laptop guy!  Whos going to review laptops now!?  Without Alex telling me what to think about laptops....  I'll never be able to buy another laptop ever again.

I must request that Linus give a public statement and force Alex to come back at triple pay ASAP.  In fact... lets fire Taren, and give Alex the CEO position.

I definitely missed that. Of course Dennis was pretty much completely behind the scenes now. It's always good that people leave because they want to do new things, but that's some big blows to LMG.

This sucks. I get that people leaving is just business as usual for any employer, but I really liked Alex and Dennis.

Considering they are both referring to Zip Tie Tuning... And their twitter bio refers to it as well...

I am guessing they both left in pursuit of their passion on that new channel.

Well, I wish them the best of luck on their future endeavors.

People leave companies all of the time.
I stayed at my first part time job 6ish years... then 6ish years at the first full time job... then a few years at the next and then...

8 years is a decent run.

I think LMG lost some good talent in recent times, mostly from a "people watch the channel for the personalities" perspective, which is a thing. I'm sure LMG will adapt.

Damn bro. People barely last 3 years at a single company in tech.

2-4ish years is a decent tenure depending on your vesting schedule and how well you can negotiate.

I left google right as my initial stock grant started to deplete.... and then jumped somewhere else at a higher level and the cycle continues...

Stock makes up a GOOD chunk of pay in tech.

I remember being WOWed when people talked about google having a salary of around $150k when I was younger. It's more like 150K plus MORE than that in stocks and bonus.

Don't they offer you more RSU after the initial one is up? Surely people have more reason to leave than just chasing more stocks.

Where did hyper loud screamy lady that once upon a time did WAN show prep and rip up Tech linked episodes?

Because of unknown reasons (I can find you thread where we discussed about possible reasons), LMG has taken down their public staff listing. If person works behind the scenes, we don't have to know about them. If they are seen once or twice, we don't have to know about them. For these 3, they all have been quite front and center. Its also their own decision to announce their leave from the company. Because of reasons Linus has talked on WAN for example, LMG does not publish details about employees quitting unless those employees want it. Last person publicly leaving (as in where LMG made video) was Taran. The suspension of Gamelinked and Mac Address didn't include notion about staff changes related to those, people affected made announcements themselves.

They do. It's often just a bit smaller.
It'll depend on the vest schedule to some degree.

Amazon tends to backload vesting. Google Front loads it. Facebook/Meta the last I checked does 25% per year (1/16 per quarter) with there being a handful of differences based on your specific situation. Most places have stock refreshers which are nice, and which kind of "add up"

but job hopping often gets you a "free promotion" and often you're able to get MORE.

A sample job package for a 22 year old software developer with 0 experience (other than maybe an internship or 3) might be:

130k base, 15% bonus, 200k equity over 4 years (50/year) and 40k equity in refreshers per year.

It basically doubles by the time you're mid career with it being disproportionately the equity part.

---

Job hopping periodically basically takes your stacked 40k a year refreshers (so maybe 160k total assuming no appreciation) and swaps it out for a new grant (maybe 300-500k) plus a new sign on bonus (50-300k depending).

numbers are directional, do your own research.
