Hi guys,

Me and my friend were upgrading his CPU from a Ryzen 5 1600x to a Ryzen 7 5800x. His mobo is a MSI B350M Mortar Arctic. I especially made sure that the Bios was updated while the old CPU was in, and made sure in boots properly after Bios was updated. So after that, we swapped out the old CPU for the new one and got the red CPU error light. Even when switching back to the 1600x the red light would stay on. There was no post for both scenarios.

I have tried the following:

Reset CMOS by shorting the pins and removing battery

Reseating CPU

Attempting to boot with only one RAM stick

Reseat RAM

Reseat GPU

The exact same issue persists after all of these steps. I suspect there could be a BIOS corruption issue, however if anyone has any ideas please share. Really hope it's not a corrupt BIOS because there is no BIOS flashback feature on the mobo. If anyone has any ideas on why this may have occured that would also be great, cause I explicitly ensured that BIOS was updated correctly + booted correctly on the old CPU.

Since you took great care to prepare the upgrade, I doubt there is any compatibility issues.

I think it is possible that something got damaged while switching CPUs or that some cable or connector got partially unplugged.

I would try unpplugging and replugging all cables. Clear the CMOS again.

If nothing works, I suggest testing all parts one by one in another computer.

Good luck !
