Hey guys, I would like to have Ubuntu on a usb drive (M.2 in a USB C Cage).

I cannot daily run Linux because of work,  but I would like to start using it more and more.

So I have downloaded the Ubuntu ISO (LTS) and ruffus. I did flashed the drive.

My problem is that everytime I boot into linux, everything gets erased.

Is that normal? How can I have linux permanently there in case I save some files

Thanks

The trick is to install Linux on that "M.2-USB" drive. Install the Ubuntu ISO on a separate USB stick, disconnect all drives from your system (to keep them safe!), insert the M.2-USB drive and install as normal. Make sure the bootloader (Grub, IIRC) is installed on the M.2-USB drive. Now, if you want to boot Linux, select the M.2-USB drive in the BIOS menu. Your Win-OS install will not be affected, if you boot the system unsupervised, it'll automagically boot into Win-OS.
