Hi,

Haven't been here for a while now, and also thought I wouldn't have to come again but THIS MF HAD TO HAPPEN

A few days ago, a friend gifted me a pair of VENGEANCE LPX RAM sticks, CMK16GX4M2B3200C16W to be precise (he guarantees that they work flawlessly, he's been using them before he upgraded).

Until now (actually still now) I've been using an awful combination of KINGSTON Fury 8gb 2133MHz (KHX2133C14D4/8GH) accompanied with one Crucial 8gb 2666MHz (CT8G4DFRA266.C8FP).  Not surprised that the faster Crucial gets "detuned" to 2133MHz because of the Fury stick.

But I AM surprised that when I put in the new RAMs, or one stick, even after trying every slot with one stick or dual channel or even putting them both in non-linked dimms, I get the same result on my MB. My MB has those pre-post LEDs which tell me what's wrong when it won't boot.

I get the orange(amber) DRAM LED, which according to the manual, when i press a MemOK! button on the MB, reboots the PC and starts blinking, searching for an appropriate bios option for the RAM to work. My MB also does that with my usual RAM that I'm wielding at the moment, but that only happens once - when I reset the bios. Once it finds the options and manages to boot it sends me a message that "urges" me to go to the BIOS and save those settings (which was eventually lowering the Crucial RAM speed to 2133MHz)

Now in my MBs manual, the RAM that I got from my friend is LISTED as supported (I guess? Definitely listed though), but it still NEVER posts at all. I've tried BIOS resetting, setting memory speed in BIOS to 2400 or 2666 because my CPU supports max 2666MHz, but no luck.

If you need any types of documents, pictures or videos just reply down below and I'll try and help you help me the best way I can

My specs are:

ASUS PRIME Z370-A

Intel Core i5 9600KF

the ram that I've mentioned

GTX 1070ti

COOLER MASTER ELITE V3 600W PSU

THANK YOU ALL IN ADVANCE 🥰

Sincerely,

Ajdin

i5-9600KF and Z370 based motherboard should have no issues running DDR4-2666+, for the most part.

As @Tetras check your motherboard BIOS version.

It looks like the final BIOS ASUS rolled out is 3005, dated 2024-01-16.

For 2x memory sticks, ASUS recommends you use slots B2 and A2 (e.g. 2nd and 4th slot from the CPU socket).

By default, if you restore BIOS settings to factory, XMP Profile should be disabled, and memory should run using fail-safe JEDEC parameters.

The memory kit should make it past P.O.S.T. and boot with that - it is essentially the bare minimum.

You can't just set the DRAM frequency to DDR4-2400 or DDR4-2666 without adjusting the memory timings.

What you can do is enable XMP, THEN manually select the frequency....assuming DDR4-3200 is too high for the IMC to handle.

Bios version is up-to-date.

Should I maybe fiddle with the XMP, shutdown and then insert the new sticks??
