Been having BSOD's relating to memory+storage for a couple weeks now.  (Kmode exception not handled, wimfsf,  etc) I also had this issue a couple months back but did a fresh install and it fixed it...until now.  I thought I'd just jump to a clean install again and now I keep crashing on the bootable USB.  The crashes sometimes are as soon as it boots, or when I'm halfway through the install process.  I've ruled out storage since it's before I even select a partition to install to.  I did a memtest last time I had issues and it came back with no issues, I'd rather try a few more options before waiting a day for another memtest.  I have a 13th Gen that had occasional BSOD's (if I recall like once a month but nothing serious) before I did a bios update so I am not sure if it's that, it seemed to have the main issues after the bios update.  I've tried multiple bios updates and rollbacks.  Any ideas would be great.

Are you trying to install Windows 11?

Some things to check

  • Check for BIOS update
  • Check for firmware update for your SSD / boot drive - Windows 11 24H2 is causing BSOD issues with some NVMe SSDs, not isolated to just WD drives
  • Memory related BOSD - Disable XMP or reduce DRAM frequency, to make sure it's not due to unstable RAM overclock
  • ASUS recommends using DIMM slots B2 and A2 first for 2x memory sticks
  • Which Corsair "800W" PSU? You mean 850W? What is the model?

AMD Ryzen 9000 Rig

  • AMD R7 9800X3D + Alphacool CORE 1 w/ Performance Mount Kit + Thermal Grizzly AM5 Contact Frame
  • Gigabyte X870E Aorus Pro Ice
  • 32GB (16GB X2) G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo RGB DDR5-6400
  • Sapphire NITRO+ 6800 XT Special Edition + EKwb Full Cover Block
  • Custom Loop w/ 2x 360mm Radiators
  • WD SN850X + WD SN750 + Samsung 980
  • EVGA P2 850W + Red/White CableMod Cables
  • Lian-Li O11 Dynamic EVO XL

AMD Ryzen 5000 Rig

  • AMD R7-5800X
  • Gigabyte B550 Aorus Pro AC
  • 32GB (16GB X 2) Crucial Ballistix RGB DDR4-3600
  • Gigabyte Vision RTX 3060 Ti OC
  • EKwb D-RGB 360mm AIO

1. Bios has been updated

2. I did this last time I had errors, additionally since I'm unable to even start installing onto my SSD there is another issue present

3. I have down the following, and purchased a new ram stick, which didn't work.

4. Yes the 850 watt, it's hidden and I don't remember the exact details but it's about 4 years old.

Because it crashes that quickly, just test with one RAM stick at a time. If it still crashes, I would ideally want to see the dump files, but the CPU would be the main suspect for me. And remember that Intel extended the warranty on these so they have a 5 year warranty.

Go to C:\Windows\Minidump and check if you have any minidump files. If you do, go back to the Windows folder and copy the Minidump folder itself to the Downloads folder (You can use the desktop if you don't have OneDrive syncing files). Zip the copied folder and attach it to a post. Please follow the instructions to the letter as Windows doesn't like you messing with files in this location.
