I’m planning to build a new PC, and I’m pretty set on most of the components.
The only part I haven’t decided on yet is the GPU.

I honestly have no idea which GPU to choose. Originally, I was going for the 7800 XT, but then the 9060 16 GB was released with the new and “much improved” FSR4, which made me question my initial choice.
There’s no doubt that the 7800 XT is the more powerful card, but I’m wondering how much performance and visual quality the 9060 16 GB could offer with FSR4.

Then I did some more research (which only made me more confused) and I ended up thinking that if I want help from smart technologies, I might as well go with the 5060 Ti 16 GB and the better Nvidia drivers.

So now I have no idea what to pick. I’d truly appreciate some opinions or a bit of persuasion.
All three cards are within my budget, and I’ll mainly be gaming in 1080p (1440p later when I upgrade my monitor).

So far my build it's going to consist of the following parts.
CPU: Ryzen 5 7500F
Motherboard: Asrock B650M-HDV/M.2
CPU Cooler: ID-Cooling Frozn A620 PRO SE
Memory: Teamgroup T-create Expert 32 GB DDR5-6000 CL30

Storage: Samsung 970 EVO plus 500 GB M.2
Storage: Seagate barracuda 1TB HDD.
(Both storage units will be reused parts. They will be swapped down the line)
GPU: 7800 XT, 5060 Ti 16 GB, 9060 16 GB.
Case: Montech AIR 903 Base
PSU: Thermaltake toughpower GT 750w 80+ gold

if you can find it for a good price the 9070 xt 16gb is a good gpu, I would go with the 9060 xt 16gb if there isn't a 9070 xt available in your price range.

Honestly, all 3 of those cards are reasonable for the reasons you outlined.

What are the prices for these cards in your region? In the US, the 7800XT is way overpriced, so I wouldn't consider it, but it sounds like it's closer to the other two where you are.

Will you do ray tracing?

That i'm not sure about. I kinda understand the basics of the technology but I don't feel like I will understand how to take full advantage of it.
I do care about image quailty but I would still prefer decent performance.

In my country the prices on all 3 cars are pretty close.

PowerColor Radeon RX 7800 XT: 3812 DKK (586$)
Gigabyte GeForce RTX 5060 TI WindForce 2 16 GB: 3599 DKK (554$)
PowerColor Radeon RX 9060 XT Reaper 16 GB: 3199 DKK (492$)

PowerColor Radeon RX 9070 Reaper: 4999 DKK (769$)

The cheapest 9070 in my country is 4999 DKK (769$). The cheapest 9070 XT version is 5664 DKK (871$)

The 7800 XT is 3812 DKK (586$) and the 9060 is 3199 DKK (492$).

So you would go with the 9060 over the 7800 XT?

That is indeed a difficult choice.

If you don't factor in ray tracing, the 7800XT is about 20% faster than the other two. However, it is much slower than both of the others when ray tracing is heavily used. Since we already have examples of games like Indiana Jones and the Great Circle and Doom The Dark Ages that require ray tracing, I think that should be a factor - games releasing in the next few years will likely do so as well. So given that it's the most expensive, I would pass on that one.

I generally consider Nvidia cards to be worth a 15-20% premium because of their feature set advantages. The 5060 Ti and 9060 XT are similar in performance, although the 5060 Ti is faster for ray tracing.

So, given that the 5060 Ti 16GB is only about 12% more expensive than the 9060 XT, I would go with the 5060 Ti 16GB.

I was just asking, because if you do want to run ray tracing, you'll need an Nvidia RTX GPU or a Radeon RX 9000 series (older generations such as 7000 have RT but it's very bad).

As for if you want ray tracing on, it will reduce FPS but will look better, with near real-life reflections and shadows. You can watch on Youtube comparisons, ray tracing on vs off in games.

Alright, so basically my decision should be 9060 XT or 5060 TI if want ray tracing or if don't need it the choice is 7800 XT?

But if Ray tracing will reduce FPS, would the 9060 XT and 5060 TI come to struggle in some games. especially if and when I upgrade to 1440p?

I'll look at some comparisons.

Yes, those GPUs, neither one of them will be able to do 1440p Ray Tracing, however, you could do 1080p Ray Tracing. The 5060ti is better in ray tracing (not too much better) but if it costs more, it might not be worth it. Also, make sure to get the 16GB versions of those GPUS.

That might have changed my perspective a bit. 7800 XT would then become the better option when it's 1440p regardless of any fancy technology.

The 9070 XT is 5664 DKK (872$). Is it worth waiting for a potential discount or for my budget to maybe increase? I will need to upgrade a few other parts as well so the total price for the build could easily increase by 4000 DKK (600$)

Yea, it's pretty difficult.

You make a good point about ray tracing, but I would still like performace. Ray tracing will decrease the FPS performace and i'm not sure that's a tradeoff that will make the GPU's struggle in some games and on higher settings.

If do choose ray tracing I will go with the 5060 Ti instead. You sold that card well

Yeah. If you're not going to use Ray Tracing or the new FSR 4 AI upscaling, the 7800XT will outperform the 5060ti and 9060XT in most games.

I would go with the 9060 xt 16gb over the 7800 xt, because even though the 7800 xt is a little faster the 9060 xt has access to amds newer raytracing and other features.

Yea, I looked at some bench marks and the 9060 16 GB is actually not far off the 7800 XT.
However, not I have just wondering if I should wait for a discount or budget increase and go for the 9070 XT or non xt instead.

Yeah, that's the what decision should be down to. I'll spend making my decisoin based on that.
I've also seen some benchmarks where the 9060 is actually not that far off the 7800 XT.

the performance jump from a 9060 xt to a 9070 xt is decent and can be worth it though the 9070 xt will be better for 1440p, but it's completely up to you because they are both good cards. I would watch some benchmarking videos of them head to head to get some comparisons for the games you plan on playing.

Yea good idea, will do. The price jump is also decent and I will probably have to upgrade some other parts but it might be worth it.
Also for long term and for when I get a 1440p monitor at some point
