Internet is being super weird on just one device

Any recommendations?

Sorry, no. Don't think I've ever used a usb adapter for either WiFi or wired but if you can grab a cheap Netgear or TPLink device on Amazon or eBay then might be worth giving that a bash.

Before using the new device maybe best disable both the mobo's NIC and Wifi adapter in BIOS and Windows so the only visible device is the USB one.

My ethernet isn't completely broken, as I'm able to type using the windows computer in question, but many sites are "unreachable," such as speedtest.net or stackoverflow. Normally I'm at 350 Mbps with my service, and all of my other devices work just fine. My wifi isn't working well either, as the speeds start at 25 Mbps and then slowly sink to 0 and the wifi disconnects.

This occurs on my PC, on either Windows or Ubuntu. I have an Intel Wi-fi 6 AX200 160 MHz, which I've reinstalled the drivers for on Windows several times, and a Realtek PCIe 2.5 GbE Family Controller.

I've also updated the BIOS on the B550 MSI Gaming Edge Wifi to 1.10, where it notes fixing a Wifi bug.

I'm convinced this is a hardware issue, but I'm not sure what else to try.

Try reinstalling the driver. 🙂

Hi buddy,

While it looks like a hardware issue, if you are having both hardwired AND wireless issues then I'd say the chances of both failing at the same time are slim to none.

Have you tried a tool like 'Advanced IP Scanner' to show everything on your current network? There's maybe an IP address conflict...

Have you tried setting a static IP for the NIC / Wireless Adapter? Best to run a terminal command like Arp-a to list all devices on the current subnet and chose an IP address that's not listed.

I would suggest resetting the Windows Network Stack with a few other commands but if its happening in Linux then it looks like this is downstream from the PC.

Have you tried a factory reset on your router?

I have a BT Smart Business Hub that I use for by business and as its a pretty big restaurant (150 covers), it gets gummed up relatively frequently and decides to stop dishing out IP addresses.

Has this just started happening or has it been always like this on this PC?

Looks like the IP address

Looks like the IP addresses are all ok, no conflicts, using the Advanced IP Scanner. I actually may have set a custom IP address in the myriad of changes I made to try and fix things. This has been the case since last week I think? Two hardware changes recently, one was a 90 degree angle HDMI adapter, and the other was an ORICO M.2 to USB adapter, but unplugging the latter doesn't change anything.

Looking at my router, it does seem as though only the computer and a printer have been relegated to 2.4 GHz. I did at one point try disabling the 2.4 GHz band on the router, and it took the Wifi speeds down to 5 Mbps on the desktop.

I'll try a factory reset on the router. Also trying with the printer off.

I realized I had a PCie 3.0 x 1 Wifi and Bluetooth adapter in another PC, went ahead and moved it over as a test, turned off the MB Wifi and Bluetooh, and now I'm getting much closer to carrier advertised speeds, far faster than what I had before. Kinda sucks that the Wifi and Bluetooth in the MB was going bad. The final trigger to buy an adapter was that the Bluetooth XBox controller kept disconnecting or had crazy high latency, which wasn't the case previously.
