Tho with such old hardware I would suggest to ride it out till you have enough money for a new everything rather than upgrading 1 at a time since you already are gonna replace everything (maybe not the PSU if its sufficient and good enough)

Idk to trust GPU comparison websites like versus about gpus, but I've found a GTX GALAX 1660 SUPER "1 CLICK OC" for $150, and currently have a ROG STRIX GTX 1060 6GB, would buying the 1660 be an improvement? I have a I7-4790 cpu which is pretty old and I fear it may hold back the gpu, but I plan on upgrading the motherboard sometime later this year

I like TechPowerUp for a quick look. Search for their reviews and go to the summary page to get a quick feel.

1660S ball park 30% faster than 1060 6GB. I'd caution, this being older review, would be for games of the time. The gap may change for newer games, especially if they use newer features from newer gens.

 

For instance, if you go to their summary page it shows a smaller difference than in the review.

 

4790 was a good CPU of the time. Depending on mobo and current settings, if possible and not already done, setting a higher power limit might get a bit more out of it.

Ty man, and the upgrade for the motherboard will be cpu, ram, cooler, memory etc and that'll cost me around ~$800 AUD already, so this will work until I've done that, THEN go for a new gpu, again thank you!

1060 is 22% slower.
1660 super is quite a bit more then 22% faster. 

Remeber you need to keep your reference point correct with percentages.

The highlighted GPU is the 1660 super (see that lil S after the 1660 in the yellow bar) which is at 100% aka its the refrence

The Chart shows the 1060 6GB at 78%

The difference mathematically is 100-78=22 aka 22% difference 

Correct me if I'm wrong but according to the visuals and the math nah its 22% flat overall so your math aint mathing

78 is 22% less than 100.

100 is 28% more than 78.

yes, that is stating the 1060 6GB is 22% SLOWER then the 1660 S. 
It is NOT stating that the 1660 S is 22% faster then the 1060 6 GB.

For the sake of simplicity in the converisions, lets just say 1% 1 FPS, as in 100% is 100fps, and 78% is 78fps
78/100 = 1.28, or the faster card is 128% of the slower card, or 28% faster then the slower card.  

 

This is more intuitive with say 50% and 100%.

The slow card is 50% of the faster card, or half as fast as the faster card. 
or the faster card is 200% of the slower card, or 100% faster then the slower card. 
a card that is 50% faster then the slower card would only be 75.

Welp theres a reason I took biology and not math so thx for the correction tho extra 5-6% (accounting for the margin of error in results and rounding, lets say 1%) still aint all that much a difference at least in my eyes (say the 1060 gets 100 FPS the 1660 S would go from 122 to 127-8) and I usually see how much slower the current stuff is compared to new stuff rather than how much faster the new stuff would be for the sake of expectations so I guess I'll switch that up too for the sake of consistency with the rest of the ppl here
