Looking for a suggesting for a good pair of headphones that wont break on me.

I have had a bad day today it seems. First I notice that the glue holding my earpads of my somewhat new Corsair HS55 headphones have basically come undone. So I reached for my trusty great sounding Plantronics (but both old and horribly uncomfortable) Gamecom 780 headset only for the plastic band to snap when putting it on my head.

So I dug out my Logitech G430 which doesn't sound great but is at least comfortable and noticed that it is probably bout to crack at one of the headphones too. I am not super angry about the Logitech of the Plantronics headsets, both of those are over 10 years old, but this Corsair headset is like just over 2 years old (basically just out of Warranty, so lucky me I guess.)

Does anyone have any recommendations for a good headset to use when gaming. some sort of surround sound support would be good. Do I have any viable options for around $ 50 Canadian?

$50 is a pretty hard ask.

I'd check out Hardware Canucks. They've done quite a few headphone shootouts for gaming.

Yeah $50 canadian is pretty rough, in that price range I would recommend IEM's with either an attached mic or affordable desktop mic.  Or look at the Koss Kph30i and perhaps some grado knockoff pad's along with either the built in mic or an affordable desktop mic.  Both of those options will give budget hifi entry sound and bare minimum mic quality.  Be aware that to hook to a desktop you will need to budget for a female TRRS to dual male TRS adapter or use the suggested desktop mic.  Could always start with an inline mic that both options will have then potentially add something for a mic.

I would look at linsoul audio for affordable IEM's and at amazon for the koss.

*linked desktop mic is not a recommendation, just cheapest on amazon

I actually have a Yeti Mic I have been using for 10 + years so a good mic is not really a must, just a nice thing to have. There is a deal for a Asus Tuf wired M1 headset on amazon in Canada right now, but I am unable to find a review of that specific model anywhere other than the Amazon reviews and I usually don't trust those.

Does anyone have any experience with the ASUS headsets?

So IMO/E headsets for gaming typically vary WILDLY from one headset to another.  Some of them are absolute garbage, some are good at one thing and crap at everything else.  My typical recommendation is to go with something built for music and it will be more accurate for gaming and general use.  I've had 3 gaming headsets, all of them higher budget and throwing money at it doesn't make it a good product.  One was lifeless, one was great for games and nothing else, and the other was bloated to no end and reeked of consumer sound IE: beat's by dre.  There are good headsets out there but none I am aware of at your budget.  I've heard good thing's about HyperX headsets and given their amazing budget mechanical keyboards that are simple and indestructible yet exactly what I love.... I'm willing to trust reviews of their headphones.

if you can get them over there i bought the Edifier W800BT SE for 33 euros they are ok in a meh kinda way but they have a metal reinforced headband so that shouldn't snap as easily.

sound is ok a bit worse than my Bluedio HT Shooting Brake.

has no 3,5mm jack but usb-c.

Battery life i couldn't test cause every time i connect them via usb-c to my pc they charge and for gaming its a must to connect via usb-c because of heavy delay via Bluetooth.

Bluetooth range feels like almost double through 2-4 walls versus my Bluedios.

the headphones can connect to 2 device at the same time via Bluetooth.

but if you switch from one source to another it doesn't save the 2 different sound volumes of each device so it might blast your ears off .-..

overall build quality looks good i even slept with em on and i see no damage.

the ear padding is ok but could be thicker and firmer.

oh and i used the Truthear Gate IEMs cost ~20 euros and they are a lot better from the sound but lack a bit in soundstage versus my Bluedios but those are solid.

just be careful if you play shooter games (or other games that have sudden LOUD noises) i heard that in-ear styles headphones can damage your hearing more cause they seal your ear canal off more than on/over ear style headphones but I'm no medical person xD

fair warning I'm not well versed in audio stuff so there is probably a lot better stuff out there.
