Hi all,

I am looking to set up a mini server for my parents where i will run backups and the media server. I will be using Acronis for backups as i already have a perpetual licence. these backups will be copied over to a external USB for a second copy and critical data is backed up to the cloud  as well. for the media server i currently have plex setup for them but looking to move over to jelly fin as the i am not enjoying the current plex experience and supporting it remotely is getting harder.

I currently have a HPE Micro server Gen 10 Plus that I got from work when a customer upgraded and I am looking to use this to meet their needs. One of the main reason to move them off a normal desktop PC that is currently acting as server is the HPE has ILO so i can VPN to their network and then access the server via ILO to trouble shoot any issues they may have.  I am open to looking at alternative options as well instead of the HPE but it must have something like ILO.

Looking at the HPE size is great and already have it so minimal upgrades needed to upgrade it to make it fit for purpose.  My main concern is the power budget and looking at the brains trust here to see if it will work.  The server has a 180W PSU  and we have 240V AC outlet here if that makes any difference.

proposed config

CPU - Xeon E2224 (71W) already on the server
GPU - Quadro A400 (50W)(Open to alternative) need to purchase adding to get GPU acceleration for media server . Would love to use an intel ARC card but the server does not support rebar and ARC is no goof without that.
HDD1 - ST8000NE0004 (6.8W)  to be used for storage of data (file server and media server files) may upgrade to higher capacity if needed. carry over from old server
HDD2 - ST4000NE0025 (6.7W) to be used for backup data  from Acronis carry over from old server

HDD3 - Nothing yet but may add an additional HDD or SSD depending on how data grows for them
SSD - 870 EVO 500GB (3.8W)for Boot drive and cache
RAM - 2 Sticks (10W total) currently has misconfigured memory (8 GB and 16Gb stick) will move to 2 * 8GB or 2 * 16GB based on what pricing i get locally

iLO enablement kit already installed but unsure on power draw for it

OS - Currently has Win Server 2019 essentials looking to install Win 11 as that is apparently support and would allow them to be on a support OS for longer by EOL of Win 11  probably will need a new server.

1 X external 3.5 inch HDD connected for clone of backup. this has its own external power so should not be pulling power but not sure.

Essentially want to check if the above config will fit in the power budget. anyway to enable rebar so i can use an intel arc card instead ?  alternative options / suggestions ?

This GPU is capable of up to AV1 decoding (but not for encoding) and HEVC encoding, and would seem to be adequate for transcoding. Resizable BAR, on the other hand, appears to affect only rasterization performance with Intel Arc, and impacts on video units would be negligible. Hence, both options are worth considering.

Also note that some of components (e.g., processor & GPU) would stay idle in most of time and consume as low as one tenth of rated power.☺️

that is what I thought as well but on Jelly fin site it says the following that it needs rebar. not sure if anyone here has tested jelly fin with arc and no rebar

It said about the latest Arc Battlemage series. Since this series by far have only B580/B570 which require 150W+ of power, I don't think they would be eligible for this platform. The Arc Alchemist series may be considered instead, as they have low-profile A310/A380 cards and ReBAR is not required.

humm yea i am looking at the arc A310 as i only have space for a single slot low profile only. but i am seeing that the A310 version has some over heating issue. i think it should be ok for video encoding etc since it wont be used for gaming.
