Is buying a 3070 that runs hot a good idea?

So I was looking at this 3070 from leadtek on eBay and the listing shows that it gets hot, I reached out to the seller and he said it should be fine but I would prefer an opinion from someone not trying to sell it to me, thxxx

Blower style cards are known to be loud. If, as the seller says, you need an aggressive profile to keep it cool, I'd expect a lot of noise. Personally, I'd stay away just because of that.

I'd avoid it because of the coil whine more than the high temp.

I've had blowerstyle cards in the past. They are very loud. I even was insane enough to pair two blowerstyle GTX 970's in SLI. 

Blowerstyles makes sense in select cases but for general use they are very annoying to own. 

You can however powerlimit and undervolt them, which actually can make a huge difference, but expect 15% performance loss or something like that.

$510, actually seems like a really solid option just usually prefer buying used if I can but if it dwarfs anything on the used market for around $500 then I would certainly consider it!

BTW, I am upgrading from a blower style 1070 FE and the noise hasn’t bothered me but if it’s going to be significantly worse than maybe not.

It will be worse yes. The 1070 fe is a nicely made blower card this 3070 is as cheap as it gets blower card.

 

That and its a 3070 8gb of vram is getting rough even for 1080p yes you can lower settings but well why should you when the gpu has enough power to run the game fine if it had more vram
