Hello,

My friend is getting an upgrade and wants to stick on AM4 since an upgrade to am5 is out of his budget. He wants to get a B580 for but I know it has an overhead issue with CPU's. Would a Ryzen 7 5800x be fine with the B580? Also I saw some people say they had issues with playing in 1080p using the B580, is that still an issue or is it just that some cards were defective or was it a driver's issue?

Is the 5700X3D out of budget range?

What cpu does he have now? Assuming that it is half decent, wouldn't it make more sense to use that cpu budget to get a gpu that doesn't have overhead issues?

The 5060 is €320, the 4060 is at €310, the Rx 7600 is at €260, Rx 7600xt 16gb at €330 and B580 at €270. As he needs a decent CPU upgrade and has a budget of up to €450 but could squeeze out a bit more if necessary, would a 5060 be a better option or should he get something with more vram

I have a B580 paired with a 5600. At this time I havn’t really noticed the overhead issues much.

that said, if I were buying now I’d try to go 9060XT 16GB with a used 5600.

Common build advice:

1) Buy the cheapest (well reviewed) motherboard that has the features you need. Paying more typically only gets you features you won’t use. 2) only get as much RAM as you need, getting more won’t (typically) make your PC faster. 3) While I recommend getting an NVMe drive, you don’t need to splurge for an expensive drive with DRam cache, DRamless drives are fine for gamers. 4) paying for looks is fine, just don’t break the bank. 5) Tower coolers are usually good enough, unless you go top tier Intel or plan on OCing. 6) OCing is a dead meme, you probably shouldn’t bother. 7) "Bottlenecks" rarely matter and "Future-proofing" is a myth. 8) AIOs don't noticably improve performance past 240mm.

Don’t get less than 12GB… and preferably get 16GB or more

Unfortunately the 9060xt 16gb is over €400 so the choice comes down to a 7600xt 16gb or B580 if we're talking about 12gb+ of vram. Do you play at 1080p? If so I'd say the 5800x would be good enough.

My B580 5600 combo is in my travel rig and spends most of its time plugged into TVs. Hence, I normally play at 4k (using XeSS).

I’ve had no issues with that pairing so far. It was a good value when I bought it, not so much now (due to new GPUs).

Get a 5700X3D then. It's well underbudget, coming in at ~$260 USD (compared to your budget of $500USD). That budget is enough for an AM5 system!
