You could always setup a media center PC. Connect it to your TV and then use the desktop PC version at no cost.

I've been using AdGuard Premium for a while now, and here's my honest take:

For desktop and mobile browsers, AdGuard works really well. It blocks most ads, including YouTube pre-roll ads (especially when using browsers like Firefox with some tweaks). However, when it comes to Smart TVs or the YouTube app, it's a different story.

YouTube ads are often served through encrypted streams in the app, and AdGuard can't block those unless you route traffic through a custom DNS or use AdGuard Home set up on your router or a Pi-hole alternative. Even then, it's hit or miss depending on updates from Google.

If you're just looking to block ads on a Smart TV, you might want to:

  • Use YouTube via a browser on the TV with an ad blocker extension (if supported),

  • Or invest in a Pi-hole or use AdGuard Home on your home network.

So, in short: AdGuard is worth it for general ad blocking, but don’t expect it to block all YouTube ads on smart TVs out of the box. It depends on your setup and how deep you want to go.
