So recently I noticed while gaming that my laptop's (HP Omen-16, with a Ryzen 5 5600H CPU and RX 6000M GPU, 3 years old) performance dropped drastically, due to something. I checked my clock speeds with HWinfo and found out, that my CPU's clocks are waaay below usual while in game (around 800-1200 MHz, sometimes even 400 MHz), but ONLY while im in tabbed in game. When I tab out from the game, the clock jumps back to usual 3200-4000 MHz like instantly. I have no idea at all what is causing this limit on my CPU's clocks, I checked a lot of things, tried to set limits for my CPU with Renoir Mobile Tuning, but nothing seems to work. Its really interesting because my temperatures are very much normal (CPU is around 70-80 C), so its not thermal throttling at all, checked that also in HWinfo. Also, during gaming, power draw hovers around 10–15W, when it should be 25–45W for a Ryzen 5 5600H under load. I tried to go into my BIOS to maybe see if I can fix it there, but due to my laptop's model, my advanced BIOS settings are fully locked down and I cant access them no matter how I try. I already resetted my windows, hoping that will fix it, but it didnt fix shit. I'd be really happy if someone could help me with this problem, because at this point I have no idea what to do about it. By the way, these problems are recent, all started like max a month ago, pretty suddenly I'd say, never had problems like these before.

is there a difference when the laptop is plugged in and unplugged?

There probably is, although I have to check that, because I always keep it plugged in while gaming. Also have to mention, that sometimes everything works just fine. For example, yesterday, I restarted my laptop and it worked normally like it should. Stable FPS, higher temp like usually and the clock speed was around 3000-4000 while in game. I have no idea why it suddenly worked, cuz now its shitting around again.

I think some laptops are like this, mine's doing the opposite kinda, 50w while idle, 100+ while under load (yes it's a 55w chip, but asus doesn't care lol)

That's why it's important to do research before buying something, I don't think you can do much as most laptop BIOS are pretty locked down (more or less)

As said, that's mostly bios settings, when it can turbo boost, either temps, or voltage etc.

My old Lenovo is like this, anything above 63-65c and it'll throttle to like 500mhz... luckily using a cheap laptop cooler keeps it mostly under that (like 62c lol)
