So I was able to score a 4080 Super for 1k but the issue is when I went into my psu bag I had only 2 pcie connectors.

Amazon seems to be out of the corsair premium cable along with Best Buy being a week out so it’s tempting to say screw and maybe so with a cable mod one as I’ve been using with my 3080ti and hasn’t lit on fire with that brand lol. But it also got me thinking that since the Corsair cables only use 2 type 4 connectors does daisy chaining really have an impact? If I go the cable mod route I’d atleast have 3 type 4s to 1 12v high power

Sadly since the 3080ti cable is not the newer cable it won’t work with the gpu as I tested it

4080 is rated for 320 watts.

PCIE cables deliver 150 watts each, and the PCIE port 75 watts. Both PCIE cable in theory can almost run the card but you also have the PCIE port delivering 75 watts.

Honestly, I think you're good. Maybe just don't underclock or increase powerslider.

2x Pcie 6+2 can easily stand 400W and there is 75W from the slot, so really no issue with a 320W card

I use this for my 7900xtx that draws close to 400W at max power, no issue in 2+years

Alright, I haven't even touched msi afterburner yet with it as this card runs so much cooler than a 3080ti! I do think just to be on the safer side getting a cable mod cable would be a bit more safe and hopefully future proof me for the next card in the future but then again with how fire these cables are who knows if NVIDIA will just make a new standard lol

Sounds like from the above comments that these cables easily can do more than what they're rated for, so no worries I guess 🙂

Very good to know I shouldn't have to worry about the psu or the card catching fire then with how this is currently setup. I'll still probably get a cable mod just to be on the safer side and maybe do some ocing to make my card better than a 5080 stock lol

Yeah I just heard from a few techtubers to never do this but it's not like this is a 4090 or a 5090 where this could be a lot more concerning

Yeah I mean, also what I've heard but ey, if the cables are rated for a sustained 150watts, then they could probably do 175-200 watts. Makes no sense to rate a cable for 150 watts and make it melt at 150 watts hehe.

Techtubers will never advise to go over specs, but in this case the cables withstand twice the specs...

A reputable power cable would be designed to be safe for 150W for EACH connector on the chain.  I will always want overhead so I wouldn't really want to be going over about 200W per cable personally.
