9800X3D or Wait for the New Zen? (From a 5700X3D)

9800X3D or Wait for the New Zen? (From a 5700X3D) is the 20% gains good enough for the jump or should I wait a little bit longer?

I know many of you will say "Oh wait for the Ryzen 7 1009800x3dxtKs in 2050". The reason why I am asking this is because failures of 9800X3Ds, I fear that I can get a bad one. 

 

So my logic is the 20% gains good enough for the jump or should I wait a little bit longer and wait for the "Stable ones"? (as if there would be no failure on the new Zen CPUs)

If you're using a high end GPU (at this time those are the RTX 5090, 4090, 5080, 4080 Super, eventually maybe the RX 7900XTX) and a resolution lower than 4K, go for it.

If you're using any other GPU, there's no difference.

Unless you're on 1080p. But then also don't get the new X3D, then your priority should be a new monitor.

Is the 5700X3D meeting your needs today?

 

That CPU is still a great gaming chip in 2025. And unless you have a very powerful graphics card paired with it, it's unlikely to be holding you back that often, outside of some very CPU demanding games.

I will transfer my old CPU, MOBO and Ram onto my GF's PC. from her 2600x. I do play CS2 Competitively and HD2 and SM2

9800x3D (or the newer cpu) is realistically only "worth it" if you have a 4080/5080/4090/5090 type card, because if you can buy those cards you probably have the income to be able to afford the upgrade without really caring too much about the cost effectiveness of it.

 

At this point with your current system, i see absolutely 0 reason to upgrade.

If all you're looking for is gaming, and you're not an owner of 4090/5090, the 9600x is all you need. 9700x if you feel fancy.
These are benchmarks with the 4090, meaning that anything below 5080 won't benefit from higher-end CPUs.

Nada. Same FPS. Even with the 4090, it is only a 5% gain over the 9600x.

Why not upgrade the monitor?

With a 1440p you'd see better/more and your system is ready.

how about a 7600x3d? I saw a good deal here. Almost the same as 9700x in terms of pricing

Then we have an issue. The 5800X3D barely keeps up with my 6950XT at 1440p and I don't even run the lowest details... 1080p, you need at least the 9800X3D to feed a 7900GRE in those situations you are looking for. Btw, the 7900GRE is capable of high fps at 1440p in the games you mention...

I'm sorry, but where the hell do you get those performance claims? 1080p low? Because as soon as the GPU starts doing any post-processing, this claim becomes false. Here's a clickable, again it's 4090 so -40% performance to your 7900 GRE.

If you can wait till next year, Zen 6 should be a big performance upgrade. What resolution do you game at?

What is your budget? Keep in mind that the expected 10800X3D will cost more than the 9800X3D due to more advanced technologies. Even the 9800X3D is a beast now and still will be for some time.
