Hi y'all, I hope y'all are having a good day. Currently, I am trying to get some better performance out of my 9800x3d using PBO, and while I know it won't be drastic my main idea is to get some better 1% lows on games and not to try to get much true performance as I've heard there is almost none. Im using a rm850x psu, a msi b850 max tomahawk motherboard with both CPU power plugs plugged in, and a phantom spirit evo air cooler and will have a 5080 soon which I also plan to overclock so hopefully this enough of a PSU to do so, if not I can leave one of these stock either the CPU or gpu. Ive read a lot about what others found works with the whole PBO settings, and have found one I think is stable? Currently, I'm using +200 overdrive, pbo limit set to motherboard, and a CO of -25. This passed a 1-hour OCCT test, and a half-hour AIDA64 test, which only stopped because I chose to (not sure how much longer it could have kept running). This also scored me around 1415 on cinebench r24. Before this, I was trying a -30 with the same settings and it crashed on AIDA64 but passed others.

Currently, with the -25 I'm running a prime95 test, and so far max temps during blend test were 84C in a room with ambient around 20-25C however, temps on the other tests in prime 95 during blend drop way lower to around the 60s

How long is enough to test stability and should I run more after, say a 2-3 hour prime95 test? Is there a good "End all be all stress tester" for stability that's free?  I haven't checked out y cruncher quite yet and I heard that one truly pushes your CPU to its limits.

Average power draw is around 120W, with it peaking under super stress loads at around 145W, with the volts averaging around  1.05-1.1V with peaks of 1.2-1.25V, but for very short occasions

Clock speeds also seem to be pretty consistent around 5350-540,0 with peaks in the 5450

Any input is always greatly appreciated! Thanks a lot

UPDATE* The prime95 test has been running still, currently passed the hour marker... temps are about the same they were when first starting. assuming this is a good sign

Stability is enough when the app or game you're using doesn't crash.

Stop stress testing and just use your machine.

Terrible advice, no offence. If you are going to overclock, you have to test it. Or don't and wonder why your computer sucks.

Lol, as if using apps and games isn't testing?

Or does it need to be Prime 95, Furmark and Cinebench at the same time stable?

You overthink things way too much.  Do you ping your car at 150mph+ to make sure everything is stable?    No, you drive it and when it gets you to work and back just fine it's good.

Idk what the other dude is on about. Prime 95 going on 3 hours now and still running stable

What other things you recommend I test? Do a few hours of aida64? Or a few of y cruncher? Y cruncher is confusing however…. To many settings lol

If you pass prime do occt cpu only test large varied for a few hours and you should be good, if you thermal throttle tho it’s not truly testing the cpu at full clock speed

Prime I do not run, Linpack took its place. Furmark? No, not since the early 2000s. No point in running it on modern hardware imo.

Cinebench is not a stress test, just a benchmark.

I guess.. but my hardware runs better than yours, so there is that.

So go do other things, no one cares about your opinion. This is a computer forum, where people want to learn about this stuff, not listen to guys like you who think they know it all.

For CPU I like Linpack Xtreme, I run the 10GB load. For memory I like TM5, there are some good tests in there. I also use OCCT to check for hardware errors that dont make it to the log. Its good for memory and fabric testing. Those memory tests are also good for letting your CPU stretch its legs. But I will offer no advice on that right now.

Do I need premium for that tho? I can do 1 hour max I thought, also I haven’t thermal throttled. 85 max after nearly 5 hours of prime95

I should also mention that 85C is highest and hardly hits it. Yssaly been 50-70 in prime95

No the free one, if you click somewhere at the top it lets you change the time
