Hi,

I am currrently looking at upgrading a system with a 3rd gen Intel cpu to a machine with a 14th gen Intel cpu for windows 11 etc. would I be able to just swap the ssd from the old to the new, boot into safe mode and delete old drivers or will windows do it automatically etc. a fresh re install is out of the options due to the software installed on the machine.

It might work. Just like you may have a bunch of issues.

Regardless, changing the motherboard is akin to buying a new PC. If any software is PC specific locked, it may no longer be activated.

I wouldn't personally go for 14th gen considering it is still being plagued with degradation issues(Jayztwocent very recently had his own PC fail because of it). Unless you're planning to go with a lower tier sku where it's less affected.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 3700x / GPU: Asus Radeon RX 6750XT OC 12GB / RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 2x8GB DDR4-3200
MOBO: MSI B450m Gaming Plus / NVME: Corsair MP510 240GB / Case: TT Core v21 / PSU: Seasonic 750W / OS: Win 11 Pro
