I just moved into a new apartment where the network situation for a traditional router combo thing is a nightmare, so now its time to tinker.
Been wanting to get into Ubiquiti for years now.

My apartment is a small 2 room apartment, where the fiber hookup is in a closet in the hall, so I have to go out of my apartment to get the fiber box.
Luckly there is CAT in the wall to both rooms, so what I was thinking was getting a router without wifi and have an access point in the main room.

What to get? On the wifi side, I have thought about U7 Lite, but I have no clue what to get for router. I only plan to stay in the apartment for a couple of years, so if I can upgrade it later, it would be awesome.

Thanks in advance.

Best "bang for the buck" is the UCG-Ultra. The only type of thing that can be "upgraded", short of replacing the whole router, is to get a UCG-Max or UCG-Fiber without storage and buy storage later - storage is only used for Protect (surveillance) and for logging Traffic Flows for longer (I've seen reports that only an hour or two is kept with no storage inserted)

Would a UCG-Ultra and a U7 Lite be a good combo for now?

Yes, just need to also have something to power the U7-Lite - the U-PoE injector would be fine.
