Budget (including currency): 2000-2500 usd

Country: USA

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Escape From Tarkov, DCS with a VR headset, Satisfactory, GTA6 (maybe someday!), flight sim 2024, kcd2

Other details: I would like to keep my (case corsair crystal 570x) and my power supply the same if possible (EVGA 750 Watt 80+ GOLD RATED). I currently have a i7-7700k and a gtx1080, and it has served me well, but these games are getting harder to run. I recently bought 32GB ram (DDR4) so may be able to save there as well. Current build is approaching 10 years old, so this is a well needed and long awaited upgrade. Have been out of the PC building community for a while so I am not up to date on specs and compatibility. I would love to get into 4K at some point as well.

Please list any storage you intend on reusing and what is your current monitor. The psu in this build is intended on that future gpu in the link. If gaming at 1440 then a 850W psu + RTX 5070 Ti 16GB will suffice just fine. btw what set of RAM did you recently purchase?

Thanks for the help!

Ram is Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB 2x16 320

monitor is a Dell S2721HGF not super happy with it though. It looks pixelated.

I have been seeing a lot of things about 16Gb vram struggling to keep up with newer titles, what are your thoughts?

as for storage an 850 Evo ssd at 256 and a crucial bx500 at 1tb.

27"is too big of a screen for 1080P hence it looking pixelated. 24" for 1080P, 27" for 1440 and 32" for 4K is the norm. 16GB of VRAM is fine for gaming at 1440 not to mention 1440 would be a noticeable upgrade.

^ Seconding the advice on pixel density on monitors ^.  Just as an aside, my preference is between 105-115 ppi, so at 4K, a 42" is pretty much the same as a 27" at 1440p (or a 21" at 1080p, nice maths isn't it versus the 4K).

Honestly I think I might build this exact PC if I lived in the US and I didn't have one right now, right budget.

Back to monitors, if you do get a 4K monitor, do get a large one, scaling on Windows is a pain (imo) so at least 32", bigger if you can. Get an OLED, pixel response times, contrasts, etc, but avoid QD if you're doing any web surfing, the text won't be clear.

Thank you for the list! I have to be honest, I’ve never ran an amd system before, I’ve only ever had intel+nvidia and my PC has been a workhorse for years without fail. Is AMD a reliable system that can run for a decade? Are there any noticeable differences in the brands at this point in time?

just wanted to update:

Picked up an ASUS prime 5070ti off Newegg for $830 and a 7800x3d with a B650 mb, and a 990 2tb m.2. Still need to grab ram and a better monitor, so will keep shopping around.

Thank you both for the help, can’t wait for these parts to get here.

Does that board support PCIe 5.0? The reason I ask is the B850 boards support PCIe 5.0 for the gpu and SSD and this recent generation of AMD and Nvidia cards support PCIe 5.0.

You want DDR5-6000 CL30 for these AM5 cpu's. Here's a set of low profile RAM that won't interfere with a dual tower cpu cooler.

For longevity look at a 2x32GB set.

You want a ATX 3.1 psu for these RTX 40XX / 50XX cards due to the power adapter. Ideally a 850W psu for that card.

Just curious but why recommend that board when it doesn't support PCIe 5.0 for the gpu.

Thanks for pointing out the pcie5.0 gpu support, my uncle bought the 650 for me as a gift, but I think we will return it and go for the 850 gaming x instead. I grabbed a RM850x for the power supply, I had a Corsair in my current machine so I trust the brand. Also grabbed the G.Skill 2x16 6400, I think this will do for now since I’m only planning on a 1440 monitor. Got the Samsung G6 at Costco with a $200 rebate. Let me know if anything here causes concern. Thanks again

Sounds good. Make sure that Corsair psu is ATX 3.0 / 3.1.
