Same reason motherboards don't have bi-frication these days. PCIe level switching is expensive and the use case isn't common.

 

Can I ask about your use case? why wouldn't you just buy a large SATA drive? or if the speed is important, why not a single large capacity M.2 SSD? or if you need speed and backup, why not a single large M.2 SSD to work off and a single large HDD to backup to?

Common build advice:

1) Buy the cheapest (well reviewed) motherboard that has the features you need. Paying more typically only gets you features you won’t use. 2) only get as much RAM as you need, getting more won’t (typically) make your PC faster. 3) While I recommend getting an NVMe drive, you don’t need to splurge for an expensive drive with DRam cache, DRamless drives are fine for gamers. 4) paying for looks is fine, just don’t break the bank. 5) Tower coolers are usually good enough, unless you go top tier Intel or plan on OCing. 6) OCing is a dead meme, you probably shouldn’t bother. 7) "Bottlenecks" rarely matter and "Future-proofing" is a myth. 8) AIOs don't noticably improve performance past 240mm.

Expensive ? A 4 drives Asus card is like 60 bucks, and makes sense only for at least 4x 2TB drives which are 150 each...so 60 additional quids on 600, that's 10%

Clarification required: do you mean an external USB enclosure or a PCIe carrier card?

Also, on what market? I would assume UK from your handle. I would carefully look at Ali and eBay first.

I've gotten to know some stuff, but am far from omniscient, so don't take my advice as gospel and wait for other opinions - I just like throwing in my two cents when I can.
